Our subconscious mind may somehow be able to anticipate an event 1-10 seconds before it happens. Our body reacts in advance at a physiological level.
A full-scale analysis of over twenty experiments conducted in seven independent laboratories has shown that we are subconsciously capable of “predictable anticipatory activity”. The analysis, led by psychologist Julia A. Mosbridge of Northwestern University, was published in Frontiers in Psychology in October 2012.
During the experiments, the participants were shown images in random order. Some of them were neutral, and some elicited a strong emotional reaction. The participants had a reaction in their bodies even before they saw the shocking image. The strongest reaction occurred after the image was shown, but some reaction was recorded a few seconds before the image was shown. Scientists have suggested that the subconscious mind reacts in advance to a future stimulus.
To explain this phenomenon, the authors used the following analogy. Imagine a stick in the middle of a river. Water flows around her. The stick is future events, its fluctuations mean events with a strong emotional coloring. The flow of the river is the flow of time perceived by your consciousness.
In the downstream direction, there is more vibration around the stick. But upstream, small wobbles are also created. The subconscious mind can pick up excitement a short time before it occurs.
The authors of the study point out that in order to fully prove the existence of advanced activity, it is necessary to conduct experiments according to a single standard. In this analysis, trials were investigated using different approaches. But researchers believe that the data already available indicate the existence of the phenomenon. They urged scientists to coordinate among themselves during future research and conduct them according to a single standard in order to confirm this hypothesis.
