The unusual red lights in the ocean, which were photographed by the Boeing 747 pilot on August 24 near the Kamchatka Peninsula, have nothing to do with volcanic activity. Alexey Ozerov, a leading researcher of the Laboratory of Active Volcanism and Eruption Dynamics of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told the RAI KAMCHATKA-INFORM correspondent about this.

According to the candidate of geological and mineralogical sciences, clearly a very large object was photographed in an area where there is no volcanism. “In the sense of volcanism, this is a 'silent' area,” says Alexey Ozerov. "Therefore, this beauty has nothing to do with volcanoes." The scientist noted that many luminous objects can be distinguished in the photographs taken by the pilot.

“I don’t know if the powerful lanterns are used to catch saury like they used to. If so, it could be assumed that this is a large concentration of fishing vessels in the saury fishery. Although, of course, it sounds amusing,”says Alexey Ozerov.

Recall that the day before there was information that the pilots of the Dutch Boeing-747, which followed on August 24 from Hong Kong to Anchorage, noticed unusual red lights in the Pacific Ocean southeast of the Kamchatka Peninsula.

The pilots say that they have never met such a phenomenon. As pilot Van Heist said on the website pbase.com, from a height of 10 thousand meters, he and his partner noticed red flashes in the sky, similar to lightning, but directed vertically upward.

When the plane approached the anomaly, the pilots saw very bright red-orange spots in the ocean, which even illuminated the sky. The crew reported what they saw to the controllers, who confirmed that information about the lights came from other aircraft that flew in the area.

No one can give an explanation for the phenomenon seen. It is assumed that this was an eruption of an underwater volcano, but no information about an increase in seismic activity along this route has been reported.
