A dolmen complex of a previously unknown design was discovered. The find was made by an archaeologist from Novorossiysk on December 22, reports the portal "NVRSKinfo".

While walking through the forest, Igor Kuzin, an employee of the archeology department of the Novorossiysk Historical Museum-Reserve, made a sensational find.

“I went into the cotoneaster and saw a hill in front of me, very similar to a medieval mound. Having examined the area, I found more mounds, on two - the remains of dolmens,”said the museum worker.

The peculiarity of these dolmens is that they are located on pronounced burial mounds and partially go under the surface of the soil.

“They stood right on the mounds, had a stone covering and seemed to have been let into the ground - the top of the mounds. I have never seen anything like it before! - the author of the find describes what he saw. He also added that, judging by the state of the dolmens, they were not looted.

An archaeological expedition to the unexplored dolmen complex is already planned. Head of the Department of Bronze Age Archeology at the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow), Candidate of Historical Sciences Alexander Gay expressed hope to visit the dolmens discovered near Novorossiysk in the near future.

“I have already been informed about this find behind Markoth, but so far I myself have not had time to visit there, I hope to do this on my first business trip to Novorossiysk,” said Alexander Nikolaevich.

Recall that the archaeologists of Krasnodar have begun work to clarify the boundaries of the Meotsky settlement on the territory of the city park. Meots are called tribes that lived on the eastern and southeastern coast of the Azov Sea.

It should be noted that dolmens were first investigated by specialists only in 1912. They contained fragments of pottery, flint weapons, amber jewelry and a small amount of human remains, which were the worst preserved.

In Russia, dolmens are common in the Western Caucasus, and they are called so - Caucasian dolmens. These dolmens were created during the Early and Middle Bronze Age from the 3rd – 2nd millennium BC and were used until the 1st millennium BC. e.
