For most of us, teleportation, that is, the instantaneous movement of people or objects from one place to another without the apparent use of physical force, is a phenomenon from the realm of fantasy. But recent scientific experiments have shown that it is applicable to particles of light - photons that can disappear from one point and appear at another. Now scientists are conducting similar experiments with living matter - viruses and bacteria. And who knows, maybe very soon they will be able to teleport a person?
The disappearing nun
The term "teleportation" was introduced into scientific use by the American researcher Charles Fort in 1931. The word is derived from the Greek tele - "far away" and the Latin portate - "to carry". Fort tried to combine the known cases of instantaneous movement of objects and people in space, which were documented at different times and in different countries.
The ancient Roman writer Flavius Philostratus compiled a detailed biography of the philosopher Apollonius of Tyana, who lived in the 1st century. He was considered a magician, a prophet and openly predicted the future assassination of the emperor Domitian (this really happened in 96). According to the description of Flavius Philostratus, the emperor tried Apollonius for sorcery, but he suddenly disappeared from the courtroom and ended up in a completely different place.
An incredible incident happened in 1593. A Spanish soldier who served in the Philippines was instantly transported 9 thousand kilometers to the city of Mexico City. According to him, this happened after he witnessed the assassination of the governor of the Philippines. The soldier's story was considered a lie, but a few months later, people who arrived from the Philippines by ship confirmed his words.
One striking example of repeated teleportation relates to the Spanish nun Maria Coronel de Agreda (1602-1665). Between 1620 and 1631, she regularly informed the nuns of her travels to Central America to engage in missionary work among the Yuma Indians. For these speeches, she was threatened with death at the stake, but the papal envoy who came from Mexico fully confirmed her words. He intended to preach Catholicism to this tribe of aborigines and found that they were already familiar with Christianity - they were taught the new faith by a woman who suddenly appeared and just as suddenly disappeared. The description of the woman completely coincided with what the nun Maria looked like.

The Shaman's Prophecy
During the Civil War in Chukotka, the Chekists arrested a shaman. He was asked what he imagines tomorrow. The old man replied that he saw himself riding along the sea on reindeer. Emory Hadad, an inmate at Leavenworth Prison in the US, regularly disappeared from his cells. At the same time, after some time he came to the gates of the prison and asked to be allowed back in so as not to aggravate the punishment. According to Hadad, he had only to think that it would be nice to be in some place, and this happened by itself.
A former British Army major who later became a paranormal researcher, Wellesley Pole, in his book The Silent Road, told how in 1952 he was suddenly transported from the train station to his home: he was waiting for a very important call and was late for the telephone, but sudden teleportation helped out. Pole is convinced that he was transported home because he really wanted to.
Chinese experiment
In 1982-1983, a group of 19 Chinese researchers studied the phenomenon of their compatriot Zhang Baosheng, who could move objects with the power of thought. Two closed containers were installed in the room, and, at Zhang's request, watches, paper clips, sheets of paper, and even living insects disappeared from one container and appeared in another. Everything that happened was recorded by video cameras. The experiment lasted for six months and led to interesting results.
For example, film transferred from one container to another did not light up. The mechanical watch, which disappeared for 30 minutes 43 seconds and then reappeared in a new place, continued to show the exact time, and the electronic one, which disappeared for 9 minutes, was 7.5 minutes behind. Insects (fruit flies) fell out of reality for a period of 11 to 73 minutes, but when they got into another container, they remained alive. A radio transmitter the size of a matchbox has run out of battery after teleportation. The displaced medicinal tablets did not lose their medicinal properties.
Unfortunately, some of the experiments were classified, since they were carried out by order of the defense department. But the facts that have become publicly available are enough to be sure that teleportation really exists.
A portal to another dimension?
Scientists explain the mechanism of action of this mysterious phenomenon in different ways. For example, the theory of the so-called "transport beam" is popular, when the molecules of an object are scanned, and its original located at the starting point is destroyed, and an exact copy is created at the final point based on the transferred information.
Another explanation. During teleportation, a portal opens to another dimension, and objects move through it. There is also a version that the movement is facilitated by the energy of thought, which materializes.
Of course, the phenomenon of teleportation attracts scientists, including those who work in the military departments. Many researchers claim that in October 1943, the United States Navy conducted an experiment that resulted in a warship disappearing from a dock in Philadelphia and reappearing in the Norfolk New Port area, several hundred miles away. Then the ship disappeared again and reappeared in Philadelphia. For the crew, these movements turned out to be fatal - half of the sailors and officers received severe mental disorders, the rest died. Among the researchers of the paranormal, this case was called the "Philadelphia Experiment". What actually happened, whether this teleportation was the result of the actions of the researchers or happened by accident, it is difficult to say,all documents of the "Philadelphia Experiment" remain highly classified.
The first successes of scientists
But it is known for sure that in 2002 Australian physicists managed to teleport photons of light. Let it be only 1 meter, but the movement took place! Two years later, a similar experiment was repeated by researchers from the University of Tokyo and achieved the teleportation of photons over an unlimited distance. In 2017, Chinese experts even teleported a photon from Earth to a spacecraft!
Now scientists are conducting experiments with viruses and bacteria. It is possible that one day teleportation for a person will become as familiar as traveling by plane, which seemed incredible just some two hundred years ago.
