Let's start with the Aswan quarry. This is where Aswan's unfinished obelisk lies. But we will return to it a little later. So in this place I came across two interesting photos with granite exfoliation on vertical surfaces:

It seems that these vertical walls were plastered and over time the plaster fell behind due to the low adhesion to the wall. Geology believes that this is the process of erosion of rock. This is how granite is destroyed. But in this way, you can explain any phenomenon, that supposedly it should be so and that's it.

I wondered under what conditions granite can be destroyed in this way. It turned out that when exposed to temperature. Someone will immediately remember the version of nuclear war in ancient times. Due to the extremely small volume of facts, I do not consider this version. Let's consider another.

It turns out that among Egyptologists there is an opinion that in addition to the method of cutting monoliths from the massif by crushing the rock (pounding), the ancient Egyptians could use a method called Fire-Setting (fire setting). This is when a fire was made, the rock was heated and watered with water. With sharp cooling, crystalline deformation occurs in the structure and the rock crumbles:

In one such piercing, a groove with a depth of 26 cm was formed. During the same time, using the chiselling (pounding) method, it allows you to go only 0.5-1 cm deep.

Pounding is like that. Hands for many years. The method works. But extremely slowly. And this method won't leave traces like on the second slide. There will be a more or less smooth surface.

It is possible that the thermal method has led to the fact that now the rock in the granite massif began to flake off. But I don’t think that the Egyptians, though ancient, were primitive. I do not exclude that they could have used the following technology:

Heat treatment of granite with a gas burner.

By the way, an unfinished sarcophagus (I wrote about it here) could be processed by a similar method - sawed with a jet of hot burning gases. It is for this reason that the LAI group, while analyzing the inclusions of metals into the granite structure, were not found there. Whereas any cutting tool leaves wear products (disc or blade).

An example from one of the forts in the Gulf of Finland. There was a fire inside the fortification. Burning fuel oil or some other fuel. The high temperature caused granite blocks to fall at this fire outlet. This is a confirmation that granite does not melt under such conditions - it crumbles.

On the slides: 1. A trench in granite along the obelisk with traces of a rock sample. Another granite peeling is visible on the wall. 2. There is a “mark” on the side surface of the unfinished obelisk. Why is she? But they could easily leave her with such a burner. 3. The surface of the obelisk is very rough, just like this remains under thermal exposure. When pounding, crushing granite with basalt stones, the surface will be smooth.

Let's move on to another version. On the surface of the granite exit in Aswan, there is a place with such alleged erosion:

Granite simply flakes off with slabs. And underneath is clay. Considering that feldspar is a part of granite, and it is up to 50% in clays, it is not surprising. But how was the breed able to stratify? Outwardly, it looks like a layer of concrete poured onto the surface. According to Vernadsky's hypothesis, granites are not igneous rocks. These can be outputs of liquid and plastic clays (oversaturated solutions of minerals) with a filler. And they could quickly crystallize or turn to stone.

The Aswan granite masses were formed in much the same way as this granite mountain in Georgia, USA. Here the reservoir is still preserved.

The inner cavity in the Aswan granite is a void from the remnants of the emerging water from the massif. Now the whole process has stopped and the granite is completely dry. Most do not consider this hypothesis. But I see more and more evidence.

And I do not exclude that the granite was simply dug out like clay, leaving traces over which we continue to puzzle …
