Anonim

There is one small country on the territory of our planet - Ethiopia. Very, very little is known about her history. Especially about its ancient part. The first information about this country is found among the ancient Greeks and Romans in the works of such famous personalities as:

1) Pliny the Elder.

2) Pomponius Mela.

3) Herodotus.

Researchers have established that in ancient times the capital of this state was the city of Aksum. Many travelers of the past admired its palaces and temples. However, there is one more interesting group of buildings here - the Aksumite obelisks.

How many obelisks do you think are in the territory of Axum? There are hundreds of them here - about 200 pieces. And each of them has its own unique characteristics. But who created them? There is still no definite answer to this question.

And the legends of local peoples tell that in the distant past a highly developed civilization lived here, whose representatives were able to soften a stone to the level of clay and sculpt whatever they wanted from it.

Another legend tells that these buildings were made here by the civilization of the Cyclops people. It's hard to say where the truth is here, but looking at these obelisks, you involuntarily begin to believe in all these legends. Even in Egypt there is nothing like it. Just imagine - there are about 200 obelisks on the territory of one city.

Such a number makes one think that they were produced here on an industrial scale. So, you need to look for the remains of some ancient factories or factories.

But what's even more interesting - archaeologists have discovered that the obelisks are only the top of the huge basalt structures. Those. there are still buildings underground, and they are huge.

Some researchers believe that over time, these obelisks were heavily covered with snow, and now we see only a small part of them - in ancient times they were much higher. And scientists have found confirmation of this - they found obelisks with a height of 14-storey building.

As for the famous Aksumite palaces, alas, none of them have survived to our time, and the reason for this is the Second World War, during which Ethiopia was bombed many times by fascist Italy. In the past, on the territory of Aksum there was a famous temple of St. Mary.

We can judge about this temple only by the surviving descriptions. It didn't look much like a temple either - more like a palace. At the base of the palace there was a rectangle with sides of 120x80 meters. Who knows, maybe in more ancient times there were also more grandiose buildings.

Why do you think so many obelisks were built on the territory of Axum? And how could they be built? Write your opinion in the comments.
