The charm of the island of Sardinia is undeniable. Its appeal is multiplied by the signs of ancient civilizations. Their traces, originating from time immemorial, are still alive in the customs and traditions of some mountain settlements. Some of the mysterious ceremonies associated with the seasons, the ancient rituals of modern peasants and shepherds are transferred to the customs and beliefs of the Nuraghe times.
These numerous giant towers on the island differ little in complexity from the famous Egyptian pyramids, and are much younger in age and date back to 1700 BC.
Nuragi had a sacred purpose. In favor of the cult purpose of the Nurags is evidenced by the fact that during archaeological excavations many statues of the Mother Goddess were discovered in them. But was it only this fact that forced to hide these huge towers when, in the III century BC have they started to empty?
After millennia, the veil of secrets began to lift.
Professor from the University of Cagliari Carlo Maschia put forward a version that the nuraghes on the island of Sardinia were a kind of observatories, where people were observing astronomical objects and phenomena.
Most of the towers are facing south. In addition, the location of the inner passages and rooms allows us to conclude that they served to observe the Sun at a certain time of the year and day.

Temple Sacred Wells were built in the vicinity of the Nuragas. Unlike the sun and star temples-Nurags, the wells were lunar sanctuaries for worshiping the lunar goddess, holy water, and were associated with lunar cycles and the determination of the moment of the onset of a lunar eclipse. Religious rituals were performed here.
The knowledge of the priests could be an instrument and a symbol of power in accordance with the religiosity of people.
There are about 70 such moonwells on the island. Whenever one of the luminaries was eclipsed, the ancient Sardis built a new temple for their solar or lunar deity.
A perfect example of this kind is the Sacred Well of Santa Cristina, near Oristano, where there is a water source. It is the most famous of the sacred wells in Sardinia.
The stone staircase leading to the well and allowing water to be drawn from it was a mysterious passage between the outside world and the divine world.
The well is laid in such a way that every 18 years and six months after a full cycle of lunations, when the Moon reaches its maximum height above the horizon, its light penetrates exactly into the opening of the roof and is reflected at the bottom of the well for only a few minutes at the end of December after midnight.
The sacred lunar temples dedicated to the lunar fertility goddess Tanit are made as a three-dimensional model of her iconographic symbolic image, which was used by ancient people as a metaphor: in the waters of the womb of the goddess - Earth, fertilized by the cyclic combinations of the Sun and the Moon, a new life is born.
