Sometimes it seems that absolutely everything mysterious in the world can be found a completely ordinary explanation, if only there is enough fantasy. UFOs are some kind of unexplored atmospheric phenomenon. Mermaids are a nation that existed in time immemorial, whose representatives knew how to swim well and lived in coastal areas. The Bigfoot in general is still met by almost all mountain tourists, perhaps he is one of them, only wild …

Something like this - mysterious and calling to unravel its riddles - includes the tan called Quakers - strange signals in the depths of the ocean, reminiscent of the croaking of a frog.

The divers are perplexed

In the 60s of the last century, the sailors on our submarines, who received more advanced sonar equipment, met with incomprehensible phenomena. In some areas of the oceans, acoustics recorded unusual signals, like a frog croaking. But what kind of frogs can there be in the ocean? The signals were then called "Quakers".

Those who heard the "croak" had a clear impression: the "something" sending these signals was acting quite consciously. It seemed that the source of the signals, changing the tone and frequency of the sound, moved around the submarine. However, the radars were unable to detect any significant object, although the sailors had a complete feeling that it was very close and freely crossing the submarine's course. The captain, when he was informed of an emergency, of course, did not feel very confident, because in the sea everything incomprehensible is fraught with danger.

Here is the story of the former commander of a diesel submarine of the Northern Fleet: “We are entering the Norwegian Sea, and suddenly an acoustician hears that certain objects surround us under water, and they are acting very energetically: they are actively maneuvering vertically and horizontally, emitting mysterious sounds that we cannot classify … Sometimes it seems that an unknown enemy is attacking us, then retreats without consequences. The entire crew is shocked. Upon returning to base, we, the commanders, report what happened. Now the command is in shock. The question is: what will science say? And science is silent, because it itself does not understand a damn thing ….

In the end, the commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral G. M. Egorov ordered the creation of a special freelance group under the leadership of the chief of staff of the fleet. The group began to study the strange signals. One of the participants in this work - A. G. Smolovsky later recalled: “The secrecy was terrible, and even we, the members of the group, tried by hook or by crook to keep us out of the logbooks. Almost immediately we learned that the Americans are also dealing with the same problems. They first encountered the "Quakers" when they deployed their sonar system SOSUS in the North Atlantic - a complex of coastal stations and underwater hydrophones connected by hundreds of kilometers of underwater cable routes."

Rear Admiral of the Reserve O. G. Chefonov at one time also met with inexplicable underwater phenomena: “In the 60s, I commanded a nuclear missile boat … Once we were returning home from the test site. The visibility was complete. There are five or six of us on the bridge. The radiometer indicates the bearing, but we see absolutely nothing! BIP (Combat Information Post) leads the target. She approaches dangerously … They gave a stop. Searchlight, rockets, howler. A detected but invisible target enters our dead zone and … disappears forever. Neither on the water, nor in the air - nothing … Upon arrival at the base, he reported to the commander, he just waved it off: “Oh, you! Still, these worries were not enough! If we report, there will be plenty of inspectors right now. " Then we discussed this case with other commanders. It turned out that many of us experienced something similar. But that was the end of it."

What is there in the depths of the sea?

However, the moment has come when the "Quakers", together with NGOs (unidentified underwater objects), have seriously disturbed our naval command. Then, by the decision of the Minister of Defense Marshal A. A. Grechko, under the intelligence department of the Navy, a special group of several officers was created.

Commander-in-Chief of the USSR Navy, Admiral S. G. Gorshkov said at one of the closed meetings: “The problem is extremely complex and new for us. and therefore we will not spare our efforts and resources to solve it. We will give both people and ships. The result is important!"

So, according to the naval officer and writer Vlad Vilenov, the forces of the entire Navy began a hunt for "ocean ghosts" that had no analogues, the commanders of ships ceased to be afraid to report to their superiors about unusual phenomena. The information was accumulated and analyzed. Alas, perestroika burst out, the leadership of the Navy changed, and with it the priorities also changed. Funding for the Navy began to dry up, the study of the problems of NGOs and "Quakers" was postponed until better times. Soon the special group of the naval intelligence department was also disbanded.

“I started to study the history of the Quakers more than 10 years ago,” writes Vlad Vilenov. - I talked a lot with the commanders of submarines, with those who listened to these mysterious "quacks", found long-retired officers from the special group of the naval intelligence department, specialists from the naval research institute dealing with problems of acoustics, scientists of the Institute of Oceanology. I will say right away that I have not heard a consensus on this issue. Opinions were very different, but all agreed on one thing: "Quakers" - an objective reality, and this is a conscious impact on our underwater objects with a specific purpose."

Some experts believe that "Quakers" are unknown living beings with a high level of intelligence. This version is adhered to, first of all, by the employees of the St.

In March 1966, American specialists conducted long-range underwater communications tests. A kilometer long antenna was laid along the continental shelf. A ship was sent to sea with the locators lowered to the bottom. When the experiment started, something strange began to happen. The devices first received the signal itself, then something like its echo, and then some strange, as if coded messages were heard. The experiment was repeated several times - and with the same result. We managed to approximately detect the source of the signals. It turned out that he was at a depth of 8 kilometers (!) In one of the poorly studied areas of the Atlantic Ocean. However, the researchers did not progress further, and the experiment had to be stopped.

"Train", "whistle", "braking", "howl" …

Unknown signals continue to haunt sailors and scientists around the world. Low-frequency sounds, similar to the echoes of some kind of technology, are caught on long waves that spread over huge distances. The pulses are detected by sensors located in different parts of the globe. If the signals are recorded on a tape recorder and scrolled at an increased speed, they can be perceived by the human ear. These sounds are of different types, reminiscent of not only croaking. Researchers even gave them special names: "train", "whistle", "braking", "howl". “Take braking,” says Christopher Fox, a leading expert in ocean acoustic signals. “This sound, similar to that of an airplane landing, was first heard in 1997 in the Pacific Ocean. Now the "braking" has moved to the Atlantic. The source is located far from the hydrophones, and we cannot detect it."

Frequency modulated and as if transmitted by intelligent beings, a signal called "upward" sounded constantly in the ocean from 1991 to 1994. Then he suddenly disappeared. A few years later, it reappeared, noticeably strengthened and became more diverse. It has not yet been possible to pinpoint the sources of these signals, so scientists still have a lot of exciting work to do.

And recently, Professor Fox pointedly remarked: “The depths of the oceans are so unexplored that anything can hide there, even… aliens. The mysterious underwater inhabitants are not yet visible, but it is already well heard."
