The northerners, who managed to make a wish on the night of April 18-19, 2014, while a bright blue-and-white ball flew across the sky, can be sure that it will come true. The heavenly body, which cut through the darkness with light at 2.10 am Moscow time, was painfully large.

The inhabitants of the Arctic immediately called what they saw as a meteorite fall. I must say that the version looks pretty believable. True, the "sky experts" of the Murmansk region are now very careful in their guesses.

- I will not say yet whether it was a meteorite or not. As soon as I found out about him, I immediately began to collect information. As soon as it appears, I’ll tell you right away,”Vadim Chernobrov, head of the Murmansk branch of the all-Russian public research association“Cosmopoisk”, promised reporters.

At the moment, even the place where the heavenly guest could land has not been established. A bright flash from his fall was seen in Murmansk, Kola, Umba, Mount Suoluayve and Nyorkpakhk quarry. Some space lovers have already gathered to drive off-road vehicles into the area to look for a meteorite.

- My friends from Olenegorsk and Kirovsk saw a flash and it seemed to them that a meteorite flew over their heads. It may be that he fell somewhere in the Khibiny or in the Apatito-Kirov region. We will go to local settlements and ask people if they have seen anything. Most likely, bad roads and spring mud will prevent us from finding the meteorite. But we will be able to collect as much information as possible about it, - said the enthusiast Oleg Dronevoy, who always dreamed of seeing the Chelyabinsk meteorite, and now can find the polar one.

According to scientists, this week our planet passes through the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower, and in the night sky you can see the tails of burning meteors. Most often, the intersection of the Earth with the Lyrid stream falls on the period from April 21 to 22. But inquisitive residents of the Murmansk region have found another explanation for the night incident. Maybe we saw a spaceship die?

- The cargo spacecraft Progress M-22M, which left the ISS more than a week ago and was sent on an autonomous flight to conduct the Radar-Progress experiment, will be de-orbited and flooded in the Pacific Ocean on April 18 at the so-called cemetery of spaceships, - wrote in social networks.

A meteor or "shooting star" is a phenomenon when different celestial bodies burn up in the Earth's atmosphere. But the meteorite is already a body that fell to the surface of our planet. It can weigh from a few grams to several tons. According to scientists, meteorites fall to Earth every day in hundreds, if not thousands. But in the Murmansk region, such a phenomenon can be seen infrequently. Especially as bright as it happened on the night of April 18-19, 2014.
