According to the researcher, the location of the crater was prompted by legends in one of the regions of Australia that speak of a falling star. According to information from the legend, Hamaker was able to calculate the approximate place of the meteorite fall.
Then, using Google Maps, he was able to locate a crater-like formation in the specified region. A subsequent expedition to this region of Australia made it possible to confirm that the researchers had a really ancient crater in front of them - they found a special type of quartz formed when meteorites fell.
Scientists emphasize that the age of the formation is many millions of years, so people could not directly observe the fall of the meteorite - they simply did not exist then. According to Hamaker, the legend appeared much later, and its actual accuracy is due to the fact that the ancient aborigines had a good idea of the structure of the world around them.

On my own I note that maybe this is just another proof that the age of humanity is much older than we imagine? And the aborigines actually saw the fall of this meteorite millions of years ago.
