A multitude of unusual grass balls were thrown out of the ocean onto New Zealand's Oreti Beach, near the town of Invercargill on South Island.

Dallas senior environmental manager Bradley says balloons like these are not uncommon on local beaches, and he thinks they are just grass washed into the ocean from the shore and curled up by the force of the waves.

An official explanation from scientists has not yet been received and the case on the New Zealand beach stood on a par with other similar cases, when strange objects are washed onto the beaches.

For example, in July 2015, the National Geographic website reported on the many mysterious balls found on the beaches of the US east coast. Upon close inspection, the unidentified objects looked like very small jellyfish, devoid of tentacles.

The site reported that these creatures are often called "jellyfish eggs", but in fact they are salps - sea creatures of the tunicate subtype.

And in June 2015, a message about incomprehensible "tar clots" came from the southern coast of Texas. Samples of the substance were sent for analysis, a version of crude oil leaks from tankers during reloading was previously proposed.
