Just yesterday, we published the news that anthropologists stated that the mummies of the "aliens" from Nazca were definitely fake. And on March 22, the British newspaper The Guardian published the results of a study of another famous "alien" mummy in the world of ufologists. This time from the Atacama Desert (Chile).

This is a miniature mummy just 13 cm long, which was discovered 15 years ago in the Chilean Atacama Desert. Soon after this, an unusual skeleton with a strangely elongated skull was sold to a private collector from Spain, after which there was a lot of speculation around it that it was actually the remains of an alien (Russian experts compared the mummy from Atacama with the remains of the famous Kyshtym Alyoshenka).

The remains were found in 2003, wrapped in white cloth. In early reports, it was mentioned that at first they found a living man, who soon died and shrank. But most likely this is not true. The remains were found in the La Noria area, an old nitrate mining town.

The skeletal structure was very unusual. Despite its very small size, he had bones with structural features like a 6-8-year-old child. Instead of 12 conventional pairs of ribs, there were only 10 pairs, and the head was elongated in the form of a cone.

After the mummy appeared in various UFO journals and in a documentary, it came to the attention of researcher Harry Nolan of Stanford University in California, who suggested that the sample be examined. In 2013, after studying, Nolan stated that the mummy was definitely human, but he did not understand the reason for the abnormal structure of bones and body.

After that, Nolan and his colleagues decided to fully analyze the DNA of the mummy, which was given the nickname Ata and recently released their final report. The entire work was published in the journal Genome Research.

According to these studies, Ata was stillborn or died shortly after giving birth to a female child. She died from mutations incompatible with life, which greatly deformed her body. She had 7 mutated genes that caused the rapid development (aging) of the bones of her skeleton. This explains the abnormal number of ribs, bones like that of a 6-8-year-old child, and an elongated skull.

It is reported that Ata also most likely had a condition called diaphragmatic hernia, in which the diaphragm does not develop properly. In general, Ata's DNA was in many ways similar to the DNA of many Chileans.

Studying the unique abnormalities of Ata's bones, which seemed to have aged very quickly, according to Nolan, could help other patients with skeletal diseases. The researcher also says that due to the anomalies in the structure of the skull, the baby probably died (if born alive), since he could not normally eat his mother's milk. But in our time it could probably come out.

“It all started as a story about aliens and Ata became famous all over the world, but it all ended in human tragedy. The baby turned out to be a girl who, after death, was buried in the place where the sun dried her and turned her into a mummy. And then she was found and the remains were sold as an exotic artifact. Now we have found out the truth about her and this information can help other children with similar anomalies. May she rest in peace,”says Dr. Nolan.
