In May 2017, for the first time in 930 years, the holy relics of Nicholas the Wonderworker were brought from the Italian city of Bari. Pilgrims defended kilometer-long lines to see the creed with their own eyes. Do the brought relics really have the power of healing? What is the nature of this phenomenon? How can this be explained from the point of view of official science?

During a religious service in the Basilica of St. Nicholas, one of the lamps suddenly began to swing, the more people joined the prayer, the more the lamp swung.

Neurophysiologists have proven that there is a fourth state of consciousness and it arises exclusively during prayer. Before that, science knew only three: REM sleep, NREM sleep and wakefulness. At the moment of turning to God, the brain is immersed in a meditative trance, during which a person feels protected and happy, and due to this, his stress decreases, pains disappear, diseases go away. For this reason, going to the temple is sometimes more effective than visiting a psychologist.

Superstitions around the church have been forming for centuries. Some people believe that if you light a candle for the peace of a living person, then he will definitely die, others are sure that you cannot enter the temple with your left foot, but experts warn that these are just prejudices that have nothing to do with reality.

According to experts, miracles in temples do not occur in order for people to believe in magic, but in order for them to realize and believe in the existence of a higher mind - the Divine principle.

For believers, seeing relics is already a miracle cure in itself. Official science calls this the power of self-hypnosis or the placebo effect, when belief in healing really triggers the healing mechanism for no apparent reason, but there is still no precise explanation for this phenomenon in medicine. Perhaps that's why we call it a miracle?
