I had a dog, a huge East European Shepherd Dog Inga. Very large, I don't see them like that now. She and I were inseparable, always together. We climbed all the forests around Novgorod.

Somehow in September 1991 (Inge was then four and a half years old) went into the forest for mushrooms. The day is warm and sunny. The forest is clean, there are essentially no wilds. We went 150 meters from the road. We did not find any mushrooms and went home quietly along the forest path.

We go, on both sides of the path there are bushes, thin trees. Inga walked to my left. Until the exit from the forest was about 25 meters. We passed a clearing overgrown with very tall grass, in the middle of which there was a huge spreading tree. To my shame I don’t know the name.

Suddenly the dog recoiled from me without making a sound. It feels like she wanted to run away, but she sat down on all four paws and froze. The fur stood on end, even on the tail, which she did not have time to curl up. Then I felt someone's heavy gaze in my back. An inexplicable horror gripped me. I didn't feel any hands or feet. Time seemed to have stopped.

Thoughts disappeared, the body was numb. I froze, paralyzed by fear, like Inga.

How long we stood as two statues, I cannot say. After a while, I began to feel my legs, the numbness passed. Apparently, "it", having scanned us, decided that we were not dangerous.

On wadded feet, I quietly walked to the edge. Inga follows me. Fear would not let go, and even going out to the edge, I did not dare to look back. After 400 meters at the river Inga ran to drink. I finally looked around. Forest in the distance, around - silence and peace.

I want to say that Inga was not just a big, but a trained dog, she was not even afraid of pistol shots. A policeman she knew took her on night raids around the city. And then she froze and could not move, like me. I still don't know what it was.
