The financial crisis and the reduction in tax revenues to the treasury robbed the Romanian authorities of fear - they taxed local witches and fortune-tellers. The sorcerers did not remain in debt - last week, having gathered on the banks of the Danube, they cursed the Romanian government and President Traian Basescu

Cuts in budget spending, numerous protest demonstrations, strikes and the threat of bankruptcy of the country are not the worst things that the Romanian authorities will have to endure this year. In addition to all other misfortunes, the government will have to work under the conditions of the curse that local sorceresses and fortune-tellers have sent on it.

Since this year, the Romanian authorities have taxed local witches. In fact, this means that the witch will be obliged to give the client a receipt and pay 16% of the income tax on the received fee. In addition, since a witch pays taxes, it means that her profession is officially recognized by the state, regulated by the labor code and falls under the law on consumer protection - thus, Romanian sorceresses and fortune tellers are responsible for their predictions.

This state of affairs made the Romanian witches very angry. According to the BBC, a group of 13 Romanian sorcerers led by their queen Bretara Busea gathered on the banks of the Danube last week and cursed the Romanian authorities. For this, the sorceresses poured into the river a special decoction of mandrake, cat excrement, dog's skull and other ingredients.

Alisia, one of the witches who participated in the "protest action", says that the curse will bring evil to the President of Romania and members of the government. “Our income is so small that the idea of taxation is just stupid,” she explained.

The average fortune teller's fee in Romania is around $ 7-10. In addition, the money is transferred directly to the witch, so it is simply impossible to track the real amounts.

The Romanian Witch Queen, Ms. Buzea, who was arrested for witchcraft under the Ceausescu regime, warned the authorities that her "curses always work." “We only harm those who harm us. They want to lead the country out of the crisis using us. But it was they who brought us the crisis,”she made her complaints to the Romanian authorities.

Nevertheless, some witches supported the authorities. “This (imposition of taxation) means that my work is recognized by the authorities. This means that I can legally open my own business,”says the young sorceress Michaela Minka.

Interestingly, the bill on taxation of sorcerers and fortune tellers in Romania was passed only on the second try. Back in mid-September last year, the Romanian Senate rejected this law, developed by two senators of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. Even then, the Romanian media were full of sarcasm against the legislators: they allegedly were afraid of the wrath of sorcerers and fortune-tellers. But the financial situation in Romania, apparently, turned out to be so serious that the authorities overstepped the fear of being damned.

In addition to fortune-tellers, taxes from this year have also been imposed on automobile instructors, embalmers and astrologers. Now in Romania they are wondering how representatives of these professions will respond to the government.
