Scattered around the world are amazing ancient ruins of lost cities that are still waiting to be explored. One of these places that keeps many secrets of the mysterious past is India. Here are the stone menhirs of Wangchii. For hundreds of years, these megalithic guards have guarded the surrounding villages.
The locals call this place Kawtchhuah Ropuithe or “Great Gate”, a name as mysterious as the stone carvings.
These structures are believed by historians to be the remains of the ancient lost city of Wangchiya; The great civilization Mizoram once ruled here. The modern state of Mizoram is located in northeastern India and borders Myanmar to the east and south, Bangladesh to the west, and the Indian states of Tripura, Assam and Manipur to the north.
To date, archaeologists have discovered more than 50 ancient structures in Wangchie that could shed light on a forgotten civilization. Fragments of charcoal and shards of pottery were collected at the discovery site and sent to specialized laboratories for radiocarbon analysis and other research.
Ancient stone structures, more like water pools or artificial terraces, vaguely resembled palace buildings. The walls of the terraces were made of large stones, and the average height of each terrace was 3 to 7 meters. A total of nine terraces were discovered. Their purpose is not entirely clear, but it has been suggested that they could serve as burial sites.

However, the find that most excited scientists was a 200-meter-long water pool surrounded by an elevated platform that acted as a recreation area. This stone structure is similar to those found in Mughal cities and was probably used as an arena for all sorts of performances.
This was a great discovery as it indicated a high likelihood of a thriving ancient settlement in the region.
Another interesting discovery made in Wangchija is Pipute Lamlian, which means "Path of the Ancestors". Obviously, these are the remains of an ancient road that passed through Wangchija. Then it branched out into three directions. Lined with stones, depicting the heads of bulls, flowers and human figures, this road looks like a rough staircase leaning against the side of a mountain.
Local residents believe that the history of ancient migrations of forgotten peoples is recorded on these stones. There is even a local folk legend that the Kawtchhuah Ropuithe is the entrance to a secret tunnel that leads to the Tiau River on the border with Myanmar. Researchers believe that these megaliths will help, finally, dispel the fog over the mysterious history of this region.
