Deep in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, lies a cemetery of forgotten history. On a relatively small area of the seabed lie the wreckage of about four thousand ships, and these shipwrecks have occurred since the 18th century.
Here old sailing ships sit side by side with German submarines from the Second World War. All of them are far from human eyes, staying in amazing safety under cold muddy waters, like insects in amber. An incredible number of dead ships attracts scientists and ordinary seekers to this place, who are drawn to the site of sea disasters by curiosity.
But there are many strange things lurking under the water. In particular, one unidentified sunken ship from the early 19th century created so many problems for researchers that they began to call it cursed or possessed by ghosts.
It was first discovered in 2003 by the ExxonMobil Corporation, when it was laying a pipe along the bottom to pump oil. The wreckage of the ship immediately caught the attention of scientists from the University of Texas. Considering that the ship lies at a depth of about a kilometer, it was impossible for scuba divers to get close to it.
A preliminary survey using unmanned underwater vehicles showed that we are talking about a ship with a length of twenty meters, built in the early 19th century. All attempts to get close to the ship and get artifacts from it were unsuccessful.
A series of strange incidents prevented scientists from achieving their goal. At the same time, everything looked far from being a simple coincidence. Three attempts to send an unmanned submarine to the ship encountered various problems and problems. Hydraulic systems failed, electronics failed, screens darkened, sonar refused to work. The camera of the underwater vehicle gave out interference, which none of the engineers could explain, the mechanical arm of the submarine refused to work normally.
One of the researchers, Brett Faneff, told the New York Times that the number of problems was overwhelming and that it looked like they were experiencing some strange witchcraft like voodoo. Everything that could break, broke, everything did not go as it should.
Despite all the setbacks, the researchers found that the mysterious vessel was covered with copper plates, which was often done in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in order to protect the tree from small creatures devouring it. The same plates also served as light armor. It has been speculated that the ship sank during the Battle of New Orleans in the 1812 War.

The ship's curse continued when the navy sent its research submarine NR1 to it. As soon as she sank, she immediately got into trouble, she got out of control and was damaged by the propellers of a nearby ship.
The military lowered an underwater drone, but it hit the ship and was destroyed. Another drone managed to get to the site of the shipwreck and tore off a piece of the keel, but on its way to the surface, a mechanical arm came off.
To this day, scientists have not been able to fully examine the mysterious sunken ship. All that we managed to lift from it is a small piece of copper, which does not allow revealing the secret. There are many ships at the bottom of the bay that do not resist so desperately attempts to explore them, so it is unlikely that anyone else will disturb the peace of this cursed or inhabited sailing ship.
