Cats are often said to be able to cross the border between ours and the other worlds. And, perhaps, they continue to do this after death. How else to explain that people see ghosts of cats so often?

Phantom assassin from Prague

And cats from the other world can take revenge on their offenders.

In the 15th century, a plague epidemic came to Prague. A wealthy family with two children and an old servant lived on Panskoy Street. Despite the fact that he served these people for 20 years, the old man fiercely hated his owners and dreamed of taking their wealth.

The disease claimed the lives of both spouses and their daughter. Only a small boy and a servant survived. The old man forged a document in which the deceased owner allegedly granted him custody of his son and the entire state. It stated that in the event of the death of the heir, all his property should go to the servant.

After some time, the old man took his ward to the river and drowned him. Then he announced to everyone that the baby had disappeared. The search began, but, of course, the child was not found.

On the day of the boy's death, a large black cat, which had previously belonged to his parents, also disappeared. This circumstance did not overly disturb the former servant, who could now declare himself the full owner of the house, along with luxurious decoration, jewelry and money.

On the very first night after the "entry into inheritance" the old man went to bed in the former master's bedroom. But in the middle of the night he was awakened by a sharp pain in his chest. Opening his eyes, he saw that the master's black cat was sitting on his chest. The furious animal tore at his skin with its claws.

The former servant chased the animal away. The next morning he found that his face, arms and chest were badly scratched. The next night, the cat again appeared to him, and everything repeated. This went on for a week. It is curious that when the old man began to look for the cat in order to deal with him, he was nowhere to be found.

Unable to withstand the terror from the cat, the old man asked to spend the night with his neighbors, complaining to them about the "hellish animal." At night, he felt thirsty and went into the kitchen to drink water. And then a soft meow was heard outside the window. The villain decided that there was a cat, and ran out into the street to kill him.

In the morning the neighbors found the old man on the sidewalk. He was dead. At the same time, fresh scratches were visible on his face and hands. Subsequently it was established that the former servant tore his own skin … He was considered insane.

After some time, the mansion where the mentioned family lived was demolished. Before that, workers who were examining the house found a mummy of a large black cat in the attic.

On the site of that house, another was built, then it was demolished, and a new building was erected … But to this day there is a legend about a luxurious black cat that walks along Panskaya Street in the full moon. Sometimes he seems to stop, looks at the full moon and purrs softly …

Cheshire Cat

Ghosts of cats, which are their owners (and sometimes not only owners) after death, are quite common. So, in the city of Congleton near Cheshire (England) from time to time they see a phantom of a white cat that belonged to the caretaker of the local abbey, Miss Windis.

They say that once the cat went for another walk. He was gone for a long time, but in the evening Miss Windis heard someone scratching at the door. Opening it, the woman saw that her pet was sitting on the threshold. She was delighted, but at the same moment the animal melted into the air before her eyes … It was a ghost. Since then, the white cat has been regularly "walking" around the abbey, and a variety of people meet him.

Behemoth from the English club

By the way, they say that the prototype of Bulgakov's Behemoth was a huge ghostly cat, which is sometimes seen near the Museum of Modern Art, located in the building of the former English Club in Moscow on Tverskaya. Usually he leaves the wall of one of the houses, crosses the street and hides in the wall of another house. On this occasion, there is allegedly such indisputable evidence that the ghost cat was awarded the official status of a Moscow ghost and was even listed in international ghost directories …

Invisible cats

Not always ghosts of cats appear to people with their own eyes. New Hampshire resident Debra tells this story. As a child, she had a Siamese cat named Mitzi. Accidentally, the pet was poisoned with a pesticide and died.

One night, getting ready for bed, Debra suddenly felt something heavy on her. This was the sensation she usually experienced when Mitzi lay in bed with her. Subsequently, several times the girl felt as if a cat was jumping on her bed. In this case, the animal remained invisible.

One Englishwoman with her husband and son went on vacation to Italy, leaving a cat named Sandy under the supervision of her sister. One day during lunch at a hotel, a woman felt a cat rubbing against her legs. She was sure it was Sandy. True, there was no cat in the room.

The family did not attach much importance to this episode. But upon returning home, they learned that Sandy had died on the same day and hour when she imagined her mistress …
