Despite the obvious success of his invention, Diesel's fate was not easy. He had to endure several grueling patent lawsuits. Depressing was the fact that in Germany itself the developments of the "fuel tamer" were not appreciated at their true worth. To top it all off, in 1913. the great inventor went bankrupt.
In the same year, on September 29, Rudolf Diesel from Antwerp went on the steamer "Dresden" to London, where he was going to participate in the opening of a plant for the manufacture of engines according to his method. His presence on board was recorded in the logbook as well as by numerous journalists. In the evening of the same day, Diesel went to his cabin, and since that moment no one has ever seen him again. Moreover, for some reason his name was not entered in the passenger register, which is why, over time, many doubted that the inventor was on board the "Dresden".
It seemed that the mystery of Rudolf Diesel's disappearance was solved before the end of the First World War. According to the statement of one German prisoner of war, he, fulfilling the assignment of German intelligence, threw Diesel into the water in order to prevent his cooperation with a potential enemy. However, no evidence of this version was found, and the reason for the disappearance of the brilliant engineer and inventor remained a mystery …

The disappearance of the seeker of lost cities
For nearly twenty years Percy Fawcett, Lieutenant Colonel of the British Army, spent in the South American forests on the instructions of the Royal Geographical Society. However, his true passion was not mapping unknown lands, but searching for traces left by unknown civilizations.

Glenn Miller was the leader of the most famous swing band and superstar of the jazz era. He began his career as a trombonist and arranger, and in 1937. decided to create his own big band. The music written by Miller is still quite popular today.
When World War II broke out, Glenn wanted to volunteer on the Pacific Front, but by that time he was out of draft age. Miller did not give up and secured permission to create the Army Air Force Band. This collective gave many concerts for the warriors, encouraging them and inspiring them to win.

The seventeenth Australian Prime Minister, Harold Holt, was the author of many liberal reforms - for example, the abolition of artificial restrictions on immigrants that prevented non-Europeans from entering the country. In 1967. under Holt, amendments to the Australian constitution were passed, as a result of which the continent's aborigines were granted civil rights. Under Holt, a monetary reform was carried out, and a mandatory conscription was introduced for men over eighteen years old.
Australians disliked the prime minister for his open support for the Vietnam War. At the end of 1966. Holt even sent 6,000 Australian troops there to help the American army.
In short, Harold Holt had very little chance of being re-elected.
