A well-known English-language site dedicated to cryptozoology has a translation of a Spanish-language article that talks about a new photograph of the so-called "Argentine monster" ("Nahuelito")

The person who sent the photo to the local newspaper doubted the existence of the mythical monster himself. The photo was taken at Lake Mascardi.

The author says that when something emerged from the water, he decided that he was just a river otter. But when the creature, hiding, emerged again, the eyewitness realized that this was clearly something, completely unlike otters. He writes that he was very scared at that moment, because the creature did not resemble any animal he had seen before.

Studying the photo, skeptics immediately stated that it was just a tree trunk floating in water, to which eyes and teeth were added in Photoshop. However, not everything is so simple. The history of the monster dates back to 1910. when he was seen and photographed many times in another Argentine lake called Nahuel Huapi (hence his popular nickname "Nahuelito").

If a person wanted to make a fake, then it would be more logical for him to assert that he took a photo just on the lake where the creature was previously seen.

In 1910, eyewitness George Garrett claimed that he saw a creature about 5-7 meters in length in the lake about 400 meters away, which protruded from the water at least 2 meters.

By the way, back in 1897, Dr. Onelli, director of the Zoological Park of Buenos Aires, began to receive information about a strange creature that lived in a certain lake in Patagonia and organized an expedition in search of him. The search did not return any positive results.

Later, in 1960, the Argentine Navy encountered an unidentified underwater object in Lake Nahuel for 18 days without being able to identify it. The most popular hypothesis is that the prehistoric monster, "Nahuelito", is a dinosaur time survivor, probably a plesiosaur.

So who's in the photo? The question remains unanswered. The turtle has no teeth, right? Is it a swimming lizard? Otter? Yes, otter? A log with painted eyes and teeth? Some other kind of fake? How could it be?

By the way, for the sake of interest, there are still photos of Nahuelito taken on April 15, 2006.
