During renovations, fragments of human bones were found at the Vatican embassy (nunciature). Gendarmerie officers arrived at the scene, who then notified the representatives of the Holy See and the authorities of Italy about the find.

Also, criminologists were sent to the nunciature, who must establish the age, sex and time of death of a person.

Interest in the remains is fueled by a long history: in 1983, two underage girls disappeared without a trace in Rome.

The disappearance took place under mysterious circumstances. 15-year-old girl Mirella Gregory wanted to meet with a certain person she knew, but disappeared. After her, another girl, the 15-year-old daughter of one of the employees of the Prefecture of the Papal House, Emanuel Orlandi, went missing. She was a Vatican citizen. It is reported that before disappearing, she called her sister and said that she received a very lucrative offer for advertising cosmetics.

The loud and mysterious "Orlandi affair" has become one of the mysteries associated with the Vatican. So, for example, the version was considered that the kidnapping of the girl was connected with the attempt on the life of the Turkish terrorist Mehmet Ali Agci on Pope John Paul II (May 13, 1981). The secret services of Italy and the whole world fought over the riddle. It has not yet been resolved.
