The beginning process of changing the Earth's magnetic poles is fraught with the extinction of all living things. But there is a place on our planet where humanity will find salvation

French geophysics professor Gauthier Hulot raised panic in 2002 when he found that the Earth's magnetic field in the Arctic and Antarctic regions was rapidly weakening, and this can be interpreted as an early sign of imminent pole change. According to him, the Earth's magnetic field has weakened by almost 10 percent since it was first measured in the 30s of the XIX century. And in 1989, solar winds broke through a thin magnetic shield and caused serious breakdowns in electrical grids, as a result of which the inhabitants of Canadian Quebec were left without electricity for a long time. And these were just flowers, Hulot is sure.

Bad start

The abnormal heat with fires and smog, which lasted almost the entire summer of 2010, made other scientists think that our world is not so unshakable as it seemed before. Some experts are already seriously claiming that it will not end in one hot summer - much drier times await us ahead, and they will be replaced by destructive tornadoes unprecedented for our latitudes. And in everything, they believe, the magnetic poles of the planet, the earth's axis and the daylight are to blame - things are fragile, unstable and deeply interconnected. For some reason, they decided to change their location, and in the worst possible scenario, our life on Earth would be in jeopardy. And this can happen at any time. But when? “Maybe in a thousand years, or maybe in half a year,” scientists argue.

The head of the space research laboratory of the Ulyanovsk State University, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Viktor Zhuravlev, believes that "in the last 150 years, the Earth's magnetic field has been decreasing linearly, and the day is not far off when it will become zero." If this happens, all terrestrial devices will fail, a stream of solar radiation will fall on the planet from space, usually deflected by a magnetic "shield", and we, as the heroes of fantastic horror films, will have to hide in underground bunkers.

Navigation and electronic equipment will fail, birds and fish will be lost in space. But the Earth will not necessarily perish - a new magnetic pole will form, which, according to Professor Zhuravlev, will turn out to be turned upside down, as it were. Probably, the new North Pole will be Brazil, the very place where the so-called Brazilian magnetic anomaly is located, over the origin of which scientists have been puzzling over for a long time. And the South Pole? There is no consensus on this score. Some believe that it will land in the area of another world anomaly - the Canadian one, others are inclined to believe that the South Pole will "settle" in the snow-covered Russian Siberia, where the East Siberian magnetic anomaly is located.

Lessons from the past

"The Earth's magnetic poles are part of the geomagnetic field of our planet, which is generated by streams of molten iron and nickel that surround the inner core of the Earth," explains Valery Rudakov, chief researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Earth, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics. Their displacement is not news to scientists. Vladislav Lugovenko, a leading researcher at the Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Vladislav Lugovenko says that "it has been registered since 1885, and over the past 100 years, the magnetic pole in the Southern Hemisphere has moved almost 900 kilometers and entered the Indian Ocean." … An increase in the displacement rate is also observed. As of the beginning of 2002, the drift velocity of the Arctic magnetic pole increased from 10 km / year in the 70s to 40 km / year in 2001.

Moreover, scientists have found that a complete reversal of the poles occurs, according to various sources, every 11.5-15 thousand years. “In the past, reversals of magnetic poles have already occurred more than once, and life on the planet, as you can see, has survived,” reassures Vladislav Lugovenko. But at what cost? If, as some hypotheses say, during the polarity reversal, the Earth's magnetosphere disappears for a while, this could pose a real danger to the inhabitants of the planet. It is believed that it was as a result of such castling that the dinosaurs died. In addition, the earth's ionosphere could be seriously affected. The ozone layer will become thinner or completely disappear. However, scientists hope that the worst will not happen.

According to one version, dinosaurs died out precisely because of the polarity reversal of the Earth. For people, scientists have found an island of safety on the planet, and it is located in Russia.

Neighborly

The change of magnetic poles on Mars at one time led to the "zeroing" of the magnetic field on the Red Planet, which, according to many researchers, was the reason for the change in the composition of the atmosphere on Mars - oxygen almost completely disappeared from it and mainly carbon dioxide remained.

This happened about 10-15 thousand years ago. There is a version that it is for this reason that we do not find traces of highly developed life on the nearest neighbor, but only water preserved in the form of ice and steam. What if the brothers in mind died as a result of cataclysms that hit their heads? Concerns are also inspired by the fact that, along with the accelerated drift of the magnetic poles, a strong deviation of the Earth's axis and a shift of the geographic poles have recently been observed. The axis is no longer where it was half a century ago, scientists state. What can happen if she significantly changes her position? If, for example, the axis became perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic, as is characteristic of Jupiter and Venus, there would be no seasons on our planet. The earth would always be in the same position relative to the sun's rays, therefore, at every point of the planet, there would always be the same season, and the day would always be equal to the night. If the axis of the Earth was located in the plane of the ecliptic, as is the case in the case of Uranus, the picture would be quite amazing. At the poles, the Sun would spirally rise up to the very zenith, and then in the same way descend to the horizon in order to disappear from the observer's field of view for six months.

At the same time, tropical heat would be established in the circumpolar regions. In mid-latitudes, with the beginning of spring, the days would become longer and longer, and after a while there would be a continuous day. For example, for the latitude of Petersburg, the day would come 30 days after the equinox and would last 120 days. With the onset of winter, the picture would be reversed - we would plunge into long darkness. Could this happen? “It’s unlikely,” says the head of the department for the study of the moon and planets at the State Astronomical Institute. P. K Sternberg, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Vladislav Shevchenko, however, the situation on the planet is dynamic, and not all processes can be calculated. Indeed, over the long history of the Earth's existence, the landscape on it has changed many times beyond recognition, and all because of geochemical and geomagnetic processes in its depths and on the surface.

Apocalypse yesterday

Apocalyptic predictions give rise to fantastic hypotheses. According to geologists William Ryan and Walter Pitman from Columbia University, the death of the Atlanteans, and possibly other civilizations that once inhabited our planet, the Flood and other cataclysms are real historical facts, and the change in geomagnetic poles could play a decisive role here. Ryan and Pitman believe that Atlantis went under water precisely as a result of the change in the Earth's magnetic poles. Next came the Ice Age, and its result was the Flood.

Estimating the moment of the polarity reversal, American scientist Henry Hancock calls 2012 the date of the universal doomsday. Astronomers and astrophysicists nod in agreement: it is at this time, due to an abnormal decrease in solar activity, after a short burst of heat, a global cooling will begin - a new ice age. In support of his hypothesis, Hancock cites not only modern mathematical calculations, but also the calendar of the South American civilization of the Maya Indians, allegedly inherited from the Atlanteans.

Everything can repeat itself according to the scenario already played out, the researchers believe. Each of these events will certainly call into question the survival of the blue planet's biosphere. But here's what's interesting: in their opinion, a flood of this magnitude will send under water first of all Great Britain, part of North America, Japan, and many other coastal countries. And the safest place on Earth as a result of a global catastrophe will be the European part of Russia, Western Siberia. According to such forecasts, it is our country that will become the new home for humanity, researchers suggest. If, of course, it survives.

There is an opinion

New turn

Dmitry Dyudkin, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine, Professor:

- The mechanisms of the change of magnetic poles, as well as the very nature of such a phenomenon as the Earth's magnetic field, are still unknown to scientists. I assume that there are free electric charges in the bowels of the Earth and in its surface layer. They accumulate to form high electric fields. The intraplanetary current system with a quasiequatorial strategic direction creates, according to the laws of electrodynamics, a magnetic field in the form of a magnetic dipole, which we observe. The rotation of the Earth is supported by the electric field of the ionosphere. The lag of the planet from the ionosphere will lead to the excitation of a reverse directional current - the polarity of the magnetic poles will change by 180 degrees, the so-called inversion of the Earth's magnetic poles will occur. In the past, the reversal of the planet's magnetic field has also been accompanied by a global decrease in temperature. And that was the Ice Age.

Alexander Gorodnitsky, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Chief Researcher of the Institute of Oceanology named after P. P. Shirshov RAS:

- Our Earth has experienced monstrous catastrophes more than once, caused by geomagnetic processes. There are many examples. One of the brightest is the legendary Atlantis that went under water. There are many inventions, human fantasies around this wonderful country, but still I believe Plato, who wrote where she was. Modern geological science confirms the historical reality of many disasters described by ancient historians - the death of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Flood, the tsunami, the drowning army of the pharaoh, ten Egyptian executions, etc. In asserting this, I rely on the theory of plate tectonics. For example, in the description of the deaths of Sodom and Gomorrah, the processes of rifting in the Dead Sea are almost documented, accompanied by huge emissions of hydrogen sulfide and instantly ignited methane. Clear, that in all these processes, the drift of the geomagnetic poles played an important role. So the ancient texts must be read carefully. They will help answer many questions of our time and clarify the future.
