At first glance, the Italian island of Gaiola is a picturesque piece of nature with a luxurious villa overlooking the azure sea. And what is most pleasant for many vacationers is the complete absence of tourists.
But if we manage to meet an Italian who, at least by hand, agrees to show the direction to the island, this can already be considered a miracle. And all because the glory of a mystical ominous place is firmly entrenched behind the island.
The island of Gaiola is located at Cape Passilipo in the Gulf of Naples. Due to its proximity to the coast, you can swim here in just a few minutes. Previously, the island was part of the mainland, but due to the movement of tectonic plates, Gaiola was disconnected. The island got its name due to the fact that it contains a large number of small caves, which in Latin are called Caviola.
The first mentions of the island date back to the time when a certain hermit lived there. The people called him a sorcerer or wizard. He lived as an ascetic, grew some vegetables and fruits. But mostly he ate what was brought by sailors sailing past the island. The hermit hid from the rains in numerous caves. But at some point the old man died - it is still unknown what happened to the wizard from the island of Gaiola.
After the hermit, no one settled on the island for a long time. Its first official owner was the one who built his villa here. However, he did not manage to enjoy the beautiful views of the island and his home for a long time - after a short period of time, the owner of the villa died. Presumably from a heart attack. And this death marked the beginning of a whole chain of other deaths, which in one form or another befell all the following owners of the island and their relatives.
The next victim of the island was Hans Brown - a very rich man who was also lucky enough to become the husband of a young and beautiful girl. It was here, on Gaiola Island, that the newlyweds were going to live happily ever after. But one day the girl was forced to leave for her business. When she returned, she saw the corpse of her husband, which was wrapped in a carpet. A week later, Mrs. Brown's body was found in the waters of the bay.

For several months, both the villa and the island were empty. Local residents were saddened by the tragedy of the young family. But after a while, the villa had a new owner, who, because of his atheistic views, was very ironic about Gaiola's background. And after a while an atheist, who was a German by nationality, himself died of a heart attack. After him there was a Swiss who also wished to acquire such a beautiful place to live and relax. And just as quickly, for some unknown reason, he decided to take his own life. Then there was a businessman who hoped to get rich from this place. But he not only failed to improve his welfare, but after a while the businessman went bankrupt, many of his relatives died and, in the end, he shot himself right in the lobby of the villa.
The last official private owner of the Italian island of Gaiola was Fiat Gianni Agnelli. But even having never visited the island itself, the new owner still felt the sad fate of the previous owners of the villa. Agnelli's son hanged himself, and his beloved nephew died of cancer. Since then, the island was no longer anyone's property, it belongs to the Campania region of Italy, the villa was abandoned.
But Italians still remember how many lives the ill-fated island took. Therefore, as travelers say, few of the local population agree at least with a hint to show the way to the abandoned island.
