These are the Earthen Pillars of Renon (Italian Piramidi di roccia del Renon) - a natural monument in Italy, the province of South Tyrol, the commune of Renon.
It is a spiky vertical column made of clay, often with a pommel in the form of a stone boulder. Formed during the Ice Age by the erosion of the soil caused by rain and wind. There are about 150 of them in total, their height reaches 40 meters. The history of Renon's earthen pillars began more than 10,000 years ago, when a thick glacial layer began to melt, leaving deposits of boulder clay and the debris they once brought here. Then the rains played a role: eroding the pliable clay, they thereby formed natural columns with boulders on the tops, which protected them from further rain erosion. Famous travelers who have been here include Sigmund Freud and Franz Kafka. You can get here by rail, which was built back in 1907. Besides,in 1971 a paved road was built especially for tourists, leading around the natural landmark.
