Video: Israel: Exploring Jerusalem's 2,000-year-old underground city - BBC Travel Show 2024, May

I have heard and read a lot about the excavations in Jerusalem, around the Temple and under its walls. I saw the pictures, licked my lips, but I managed to visit only the ruins of the City of David and one of the recently discovered tunnels, but not the main one, which runs under the Western Wall.

And then quite unexpectedly - a surprise! Down the stairs, underground, from level to level, from floor to floor. How many have not yet been excavated there ?? Along the Roman pavements, under the 700-year-old Turkish "remake", along the ancient walls of the Temple. Ay! I never even dreamed of this - and now, it worked again!

“That for New York, hoary antiquity is for Jerusalem, yesterday evening,” - something like that local guides like to say. What is “hoary antiquity” for Jerusalem - my brain refuses to understand, but my legs walk, my eyes look, the camera clicks greedily … The scale of underground local communications is unknown to anyone, and few have seen what has already been excavated. According to the stories, one has to sign up for a tour of the local tunnels several months in advance!

The largest man-made stone used in construction. Its dimensions are amazing - 13 meters in length (in the photo, the guide is at the end of the stone, and I am leaning on the beginning). The weight of the block is estimated at 570 (!!!) tons !!! According to the Internet, the most powerful modern cranes are only capable of lifting half that weight!

To be honest, I somehow never even dreamed of seeing it with my own eyes … I still move away from emotions and impressions …

The Temple Mount Tunnels and the Temple Foundation Stones are a must-see if there is even the slightest opportunity to do so.

On this my rapid race along the route Moscow-Singapore-Jerusalem-Moscow can be considered complete! Thank you all for your attention:)
