A group of scientists led by Chun Shing Kwon from Keele University (UK) have come to the conclusion that prolonged sleep causes heart problems and increases the risk of premature death. This is reported by Science Alert.

Experts analyzed 74 studies, covering more than three million participants. It turned out that sleeping for ten hours a day increased the likelihood of death by 30 percent compared to seven hours a night. At the same time, the risk of death from stroke increases by 56 percent and by 49 percent - from cardiovascular diseases. Poor sleep is also linked to health problems and increases the risk of heart disease by 44 percent.

At the same time, scientists note that the results obtained have some limitations. For example, long sleep may not be the immediate cause of death, since in some cases, excessive sleepiness is itself an alarming symptom. However, researchers recommend that you reduce your night's rest to 7-8 hours a day to reduce your risk of serious illness.

In June 2018, Japanese scientists published an article in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, where they reported that sleeping too short and too long increases the risk of dementia and premature death in people over 60.

In May 2018, an article was published by scientists at Stockholm University in Sweden, who found that prolonged sleep on weekends can compensate for the lack of sleep on weekdays, prevent related illnesses, and also reduce the risk of premature death. At the same time, for people over 65, a shorter sleep is sufficient.
