Among the notable places in Tallinn is number thirteen on Toom-Kooli street. Currently, this house houses the Canadian Embassy.
The history of this house was told in the novel by August Friedrich Ferdinand von Kotzebue. The book tells about Count Manteuffel, who owned that building.
There was a guest room on the ground floor of the building. Those who stopped in it said that they saw the ghost of a girl dressed in black. Legend claims that the girl worked for the count as a maid. Unable to resist her beauty, the count opened to the girl, but she refused him. Then he ordered that it be walled up in the wall of his mansion. One of the men who stayed overnight in that room said that as soon as he sat down by the fireplace, a beautiful girl dressed in black appeared in front of him, squeezed his throat and pressed a kiss, from which he fainted.

Rataskaevu street, "Wheel well", is famous for the legend of house number sixteen. Once a rich man lived in it, who managed to completely skip all the money, and even get into debt. All this brought him to the brink of suicide.
He was about to get in the loop when a stranger appeared and offered him a considerable sum just for permission to play a wedding in this building. At the same time, the following conditions were set: no one should know about the wedding, and the man himself would have to be in his room all the time.
On the wedding day, there were a huge number of guests in the house. There were more than one hundred carriages alone. A celebration shook the house, but at midnight there was silence. When the man left his room, he saw soot and hoofprints everywhere. In one of the rooms there was a sack full of gold - the promised payment.
Further, the story is told in different ways. In one version, as soon as a man touched gold, he died. According to the other, he again began to walk and lead an idle life. But his servant, who could not stand it and told the priest about the incident, soon died. Today the building has become a hotel. One of its windows, the very one where the wedding took place, remains walled up.
Water from Ülemiste
In Tallinn, they say that sometimes on the street an elderly man can approach a passer-by and ask if the city has been completed. Under the guise of an old man, Jarvevan is hiding - a waterman from Lake Ülemiste, located not far from the city. They say that if the waterman gets an affirmative answer, the lake will overflow and flood the city. But the waterman will always feel the lie, and a large number of new buildings are being erected in the city.
