It must be understood that the Romanians have the same rights to Vlad the Impaler as the modern Egyptians have to the Ramses and Amenhoteps: no rights, to tell the truth, but both of them appropriated all this as escheat property - they were the first to notice, seize and use, once nobody else claims.

In general, Romanians have a rather tough past with a heroic past. Therefore, we have to declare the Dacian leader Decebalus, who fought with the emperor Trajan, as his own. And, at the same time, to insist on their inheritance in the direct line of the great Roman Empire: insofar as criminals, say, Ovid were exiled to the Black Sea region, and all the colonists were exclusively single men, they played with native virgins - hence, they say, the Romanian family went. Here we will put a barrier to such scientific national-charlatanism - and in the case of Vlad Tepes, it is fully manifested. So, Wallachia, the principality of Vlad Dracula, was inhabited by the Slavs - the descendants of those who inhabited the Galician principality, and these people (not all, but the majority) spoke the Old Slavonic language, which was an intermediate dialect between Bulgarian and Russian, which existed in the Moscow principality.

You have to understand that all these are not really languages in our understanding: they were not codified and, by and large, everything in them was the norm - the main thing is to be understood. And the same Bulgarian softly and imperceptibly flowed into the Kiev, and then the Moscow dialect of Russian, without a clear border: "there they are, here we are!" In addition, the Old Bulgarian, which is also Church Slavonic, served as the language of prayers, decrees, and secular culture. In short, Vlad Tepesh spoke in everyday life in a profane Slavic dialect, and communicated with God and his subjects in the language that Cyril and Methodius made written. To all appearances, he did not know how to write, because he was "viteasul" - this is an analogue of the Western European "knight". Romanian historians insist that it is related to the Latin "miles" and something Turkic, but God forbid, it is difficult not to recognize the word "knight" in the "knight". Tepes himself did not write the path,but at his order they wrote quite a lot. His diplomatic correspondence with the Moldovan rulers and the Moscow prince is written in Church Slavonic. And inside the country … So, recently they found the foundation stone of a church in the city of Tyrgushor - it is directly written on it: "By the grace of God, Vlad, the ruler of the Ugro-Wallash land, completed this church on June 24 in the summer of 6969".

As for Tepes himself, to consider him a Romanian is the same as to consider, say, Vladimir the Saint a Ukrainian or a Russian: you can, of course, if your conscience does not press - after all, ancient heroes are enrolled in their own so that strangers seem petty and pitiful. Dracul came from the Hungarian Tepes family, who moved to Wallachia two hundred years before the birth of our hero. By the 15th century, enough Wallachians and Wallachians had joined this family to thin the Magyar blood. Our Vlad III Tepes spoke the local Slavic version, as well as Turkish, Hungarian, German - he did not know any Romanian, since this language had not yet existed in nature.

In any case, there was definitely nothing in common with the Wallachian plebs, with the "grimy" ones: all the forefathers of the Romanian nationalists would have been neatly seated by Dracula on stakes, if he knew who he is now considered. By the way, Vlad spent the first years of his life in Sighisoara, inhabited by Saxons - there his house is still intact: it means that he first spoke Slavic and German.

The legendary Draculian cruelty, by the way, is what is legendary. He did not stand out in anything special in this respect - although he was not a school-gymnasium student, of course. He had good teachers. Vlad spent several years as a hostage in the High Port: somehow a cucumber disappeared from the Sultan's greenhouse, and the gardeners did not confess. The sought after was found in the stomach of the seventh - the rest of the six, it turns out, ripped open their stomachs in vain. Is it any wonder that, after such universities, Vlad was a great enthusiast of spitting and whimsical methods of killing?

Well, okay, let it be: however, Tepes is also declared by historians to be a defender of the holy Orthodox faith and an outstanding economist. The Romanians are sure that he put an end to the damage to the coin, made Wallachia a super-rich principality and did not allow it to be swallowed up by various Hungarians with the Turks. A short historical respite was enough - and the proto-Romanians and ancient Moldavians started up in those places. But, they say, back in the 17th century. in the native language, under 60% of the vocabulary was not Roman, but Slavic. Bram Stoker put an end to Dracula (s) reputation laundering. He did not know anything about Tepes at all and did not even read old German revelatory books - he just looked at the name and surname and place of residence of this subject. Vlad III was absolutely unknown to anyone, he lived somewhere in a European aphedrone … Stoker tried very hard so that when he wrote the book, not a single aristocratic surname would suffer:the suffering of the titled persons affects the income and health of the writer. The strangest thing is that the symbol of the absolute evil of Vlad Tepes was made in four hands by a certain Edaward Lloyd and Karl Marx. Before them, romantic poets sometimes wrote about vampires, Pushkin even invented the word "ghoul" (among the people there was "volkolak" - the word-smear, the word-chewed porridge). But the shirnarmass, in general, did not have any special prejudices about these undead. Until Mr. Lloyd began to publish his lubok "Warney the Vampire" - and among the common people, the reputation of the ghouls was ruined forever. And then Karl Marx threw his three-volume Capital on them (I know that Engels collected the third volume from drafts). In this book, the word "vampire" occurs over 200 times. This bestseller has already imprinted the intelligentsia into the cultural matrix - “vampires are the primary absolute evil”! In short, everyone turned out to be against Darkula, even Marxism - some Romanians and Kuritsyn were for. But where are they against the inexorable course of the historical process …
