In England (the territory of Great Britain excluding the regions of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) there is a real epidemic of pumping children with antidepressants.

In 2017 alone, more than 70 thousand English children under the age of 18 (3% of the total child population in England) were forced to take antidepressants on the instructions of doctors, including about 2 thousand children of primary school age.

As the Daily Mail writes with reference to The Times, no one hides that antidepressants are of little help in treating childhood depression and, moreover, they are very harmful to the developing brain.

Nevertheless, it is antidepressant therapy that is most often prescribed after the first consultation with doctors.

British adults are no better off, more than 7.3 million were prescribed antidepressants last year and a large number of these patients live in and around London.

It is estimated that roughly one in six British adults suffered from depression and took pills in the past year. The figures revealed are up by half a million compared to data from 2015. In 2011, there were 6 million prescriptions for antidepressants in the UK, that is, those suffering from depression have increased by at least 1.3 million since 2011.

Most of the increase comes at the expense of people over 60 years old, and the researchers also believe that the total number of people who decide to go to doctors to solve their health problems has increased.

The percentage of pregnant women and those suffering from postpartum disorders has also increased, despite the fact that scientists have previously shown that children born to mothers who take antidepressants during pregnancy become more susceptible to disorders and anxiety.

This is due to the fact that their developing brain was influenced by serotonin - the "hormone of joy", the increased production of which is stimulated by antidepressants.

According to Andrea Cipriani, a psychiatrist at Oxford University, antidepressants are often prescribed to people simply because they are in a bad mood.

The most commonly prescribed medications are Prozac (Fluoxetine), on which, along with other antidepressants, the United States has long been heavily addicted.
