This mysterious house, which in fact does not exist at all, was a miniature palace. It consisted of 35 rooms and was built for a family with 14 children. The house itself burned down, but the fame of it as the most spirited building in England remained. Or rather, it would be to say that as a building in which people lived with a ghost for the longest time under one roof.
The house, or rather what remains of it, is located in Borley, Essex County, in the south-east of England. It was built in the 19th century, but in its place was previously a 14th century monastery. This monastery was for women, and, as the legends say, it was he who later settled here a ghost - a woman nun in dark clothes.
This legend has no scientific evidence and may be just an invention of local residents. But many Englishmen, including the residents of the Borley house, are confident in the veracity of this story. And the story is about how one of the nuns of this monastery met on the road a monk from a male monastery, located in another city. Young people fell in love with each other, began to see each other periodically, and after a while the girl became pregnant. Then the lovers decided to run away from their monasteries, but for some reason they did not succeed. When they found out about their plan in the monasteries, the monk was thrown into a dungeon, where he died, and the nun was immured alive in the wall.
Since then, rumors began to circulate about the ghost of a walled-up nun appearing in the vicinity of the city of Borly. The monastery burned down, but the foundation remained. A pastor who arrived in Borly built his house on this foundation. He did not believe the rumors about a ghost, but soon he had to change his beliefs. So, his daughter, walking once along the alley of the garden, saw the figure of a girl in a dark cloak. The figure was so obvious that the priest's daughter mistook her for a real person. But when she approached and spoke to a mysterious stranger, she slowly disappeared into thin air. After that, everyone began to call the alley the Nun's alley.
The pastor's family periodically felt the proximity of the spirit: either the dishes broke, then some inexplicable sounds were heard, or the furniture moved. But all this did not cause any particular inconvenience to people, so they were pretty tolerant of the ghost. After the death of the owner of the house, his son continued to live here. He, too, heard and saw all the same, but in the same way he peacefully got on with the wandering spirit of the nun. Only after the death of the priest's son did the other relatives decide to leave the house.
One of the rooms of the priest's house had an interesting feature. For some inexplicable reason, the temperature in it was always 6 degrees lower compared to the rest of the rooms. Nobody could understand - what is the reason for such a temperature difference.

The next owners of the haunted house were another shepherd with his wife Marianne. The girl turned out to be impressionable and until the very arrival she tried to dissuade her husband from stopping by this mysterious mansion. But they nevertheless settled here, and Marianne with her husband, and often with friends who visited them, became witnesses of some strange events. Now water dripped over their bed in the bedroom, then footsteps were heard in empty rooms, then bottles flew down the hall and dishes crashed with a crash.
When the patience of these owners ran out, they, like the previous owners, moved out. Instead of them, a retired captain who did not believe in anything "otherworldly" now settled in the house. And just a year later, a fire broke out in the house, after which only the walls remained of the building itself. It is interesting that the day before the incident, a seance was organized here, after which the owner was warned of a future fire. By that time, a researcher of various otherworldly phenomena came to the house by that time, with a certain frequency, who, in his own way, studied the events taking place in this mysterious little palace.
After the fire, during the dismantling of the house, the remains of a woman were found in the wall. They immediately began to investigate, but nothing confirming or refuting the legend of the unfortunate love of two monks was never found. Moreover, after the fire, they stopped seeing the ghost for some time. However, in 1951, two men walked along the Nun's Alley. And both of them almost simultaneously saw the ghost of a woman, but this time - in a light cloak and with a hood thrown over their heads.
The house burned down in 1939, but the fame of the ghosts inhabiting it is still alive. Therefore, tourists still come here wishing to meet the ghosts that once lived in the priest's house in Borly.
