The meteorite that fell near Baikal attracted public interest.

The Chelyabinsk meteorite that fell several years ago has not yet been fully studied, but now scientists have a new object for scientific research.

This time, there were no casualties, since the meteorite did not fall in a densely populated area and, presumably, into the water. Inhabitants of villages near Baikal Island became witnesses of an unusual phenomenon. It is reported that the celestial body fell somewhere beyond the Barguzinsky ridge.

Local residents report that on the evening of October 25 at about 19:00 local time (14:00 Moscow time) they saw the light in the night sky. It is reported that it became very light for several seconds. Like the Chelyabinsk meteorite, the fall was accompanied by explosions in the atmosphere.

The eyewitnesses who provided the first video of a celestial body approaching the earth were the builders who were at the construction site in the area.

Despite the fact that the incident took place several days ago, the operational services of the region have not yet given any comments on this matter. It is assumed that the search for the fallen meteorite is still ongoing.

Scientists suggest that the meteorite may be on a par with the largest meteorites that fell on the territory of Russia: Tunguska (1908), Tsarevsky (1922), Katavsky (1941), Sikhote-Alinsky (1947), Sterlitamaksky (1990), Vitimsky (2002), Chelyabinsk (2013).

Based on the trail left in the air, it is still difficult to guess which classification it belongs to in terms of composition: stone, iron (siderite) or iron-stone.

The lack of official data on the celestial body worried the public and gave rise to a number of assumptions about its nature. In the discussions of users of social networks, there are suggestions that this is not a meteorite, but a test of a secret weapon or even the fall of a spaceship.

It should be noted that the scale of the fall of the new meteorite is somewhat inferior to the Chelyabinsk meteorite. The event, which happened on February 17, 2013, was accompanied by a series of serious atmospheric explosions, and fragments of a celestial body that fell in the area of settlements caused some, albeit minor, damage.
