Many have heard about the phenomenon of clairvoyance, as, probably, about some well-known foretellers: about Nostradamus, Vanga, Casey, about vices, psychics, shamans.
What is the phenomenon of clairvoyance, or, as it is called in another way, farsightedness? It is usually believed that clairvoyance is the ability of a person to receive information about events of the past or future through information channels and with the help of mechanisms unknown to modern science and not recorded by it.
The ability of some people to "look into the past or the future" has been known to mankind for a long time. The most ancient form of clairvoyance is shamanism. Plunging into a trance, shamans got the opportunity to see subtle astral structures, for example, extraterrestrial entities or the aura of people.
Traveling to the astral worlds, shamans searched for the missing herds of domestic animals and people lost in the forest or in the tundra, healed the sick. But in order to accomplish these tasks, they had to "see" it all. Therefore, shamans most often became people who saw vivid dreams or visions.
In their magical practices, the priests of Ancient Egypt also paid much attention to clairvoyance. Before mastering this ability, the priest fasted and devoted long hours of meditation. At the same time, he began to see vivid pictures of extraterrestrial life, the gods who spoke to him, prompting him to solve certain problems correctly.
A lot of attention was paid to clairvoyance in ancient Greece. The famous Delphic oracle, to which a huge number of people flocked to find out the future, can serve as proof of this fact.
The oracle was the majestic temple of Apollo, located in Delphi. It was served by pythias - virgin girls who, under the influence of the vapors escaping from the cave behind the temple, went into ecstasy and prophesied. They also, through the mouth of Apollo, answered the questions that people asked. And the questions were very different: the military leaders wanted to know the outcome of future battles, politicians were interested in state affairs, merchants were interested in the forecasts of their trade enterprises.
And it was the Delphic oracle who became a participant in the first experiment to study the phenomenon of clairvoyance. A description of this experience was given by Herodotus. This experiment was carried out by Croesus - the king of Lydia in 550 BC. Croesus decided to find out how accurate the predictions of several of the most famous oracles were.

Herodotus writes: “With this in mind, he decided to test several Greek oracles and one Lydian. The messengers went to the oracles with the instruction that they should act like this: keep track of the days after their departure from Sardis, a city in Asia Minor, and on the hundredth day after their departure, ask the oracle what Croesus, the king of Lydia, is doing now. Write down the answers and bring them to Croesus.
The Delphic priests must give prophetic answers to the questions asked. To do this, they must pass them on to the pythia, who is in a daze from the constant chewing of the leaves of the sacred laurel, drinking water from an intra-temple source and self-hypnosis. In this state of trance, the Pythia will answer the questions of the priests, who will interpret her utterance, rhyme it, and in this form will give the final answer.
The messengers who entered the Delphic sanctuary received the following rhymed answer from the Pythia:
I can count the sands, I can measure the ocean
I have ears to listen to the silence
I know the name of a dumb man
The scent of a turtle covered with a shield affects my mind

When all the messengers returned, Croesus unrolled all the messages of the oracles at once and read them, and then announced that only the oracle from Delphi answered the question correctly. And here is an equally amazing case, already known from our time. So, on the evening of September 9, 1914, in the Zombe camp, where the training of African recruits was conducted, unexpectedly local women burst into tears. When they began to find out the reason for their sudden and seemingly unreasonable cry, they replied that they were mourning their husbands and several white officers who had just died in battle. The actions of the clairvoyants, which have just been discussed, are usually called purposeful. However, researchers also know the so-called spontaneous clairvoyance, or premonition. Moreover, even the most ordinary people often face this phenomenon in their lives. This can be confirmed by the following event.
On the night of August 2007, a mudflow descended on the Bulungu village of the Chegem region of Kabardino-Balkaria. 16 houses were flooded, two houses were completely washed away by the elements, and eight residential buildings were partially destroyed.
But, as it turned out, the Bulungu catastrophe claimed the life of only one person. What happened is even more surprising, given the fact that in this small village the number of inhabitants was quite large, and the residential buildings were almost next to one another.

Later it turned out that the avalanche had bypassed the housing of those people who did not leave their homes on the day of the natural disaster. The American sociologist James D. L. tried to investigate the phenomenon of foreboding. Staunton. He analyzed the statistics of more than 100 accidents in railway transport and more than 50 aircraft accidents over a half-century. Then the scientist entered the obtained data into a computer in order to establish the ratio of three parameters: the capacity of the vehicle, the number of people who were going to use this vehicle, and the number of those killed in the accident.
In addition, Staunton collected statistics on the number of passengers who traveled along the same routes and on similar planes and trains, but did not get into the crash.
It turned out that in all those cases that ended in tragedy, the number of passengers on planes and trains averaged 61% of the vehicle's capacity, while 76% of seats were occupied on safe flights.

When D. Staunton died, the famous writer Stephen King took up the problem of premonition or clairvoyance. How, then, to explain the phenomena of premonition and clairvoyance? A variety of hypotheses have been put forward on this score. So, according to some assumptions, our ancestors' senses were much better developed, and they could more accurately predict the future. But over time, hypersensitivity lost its significance and disappeared. And only in critical situations, the "subconscious signaling system" awakens. However, not all.
At the same time, the English psychiatrist Barker believes that the larger the number of premonitions of disaster, the greater.
As for clairvoyance, the problem is much broader here. Thus, many clairvoyants receive the necessary information from an unknown voice. For example, the Brazilian healer Arigo was an illiterate man, but he prescribed not only treatment, but also wrote out hundreds of accurate prescriptions in impeccable Latin. And many people were cured of the most serious diseases. At the same time, the famous healer stated that a certain doctor was helping him in his business. But no one, except Arigo, saw or heard him …
Some scientists believe that clairvoyants receive the necessary data from the database of the information field of the Universe, with which a person's subconscious is connected. In turn, the subconscious and consciousness are in constant and close relationship through a special channel, which for most people is blocked by a special system. Experts call it a "plug". But if the "plug" does not completely block this channel, then information from his subconscious sometimes "seeps" into a person's consciousness, and with it information from the universal information "computer". It is the person who draws information from this source who is the clairvoyant.
Thus, although modern science does not deny clairvoyance, nevertheless it cannot yet find an acceptable explanation for it.
