This Photo has spread all over the world. It is allegedly the last image taken and transmitted by the space probe Cassini before it made its final "leap" into the atmosphere of Saturn. It is beautiful, no doubt, but, unfortunately, it is a fake from start to finish.
Over the past few days, the image has received tens of thousands of likes and retweets on social media, despite the fact that it is entirely a product of the imagination of the artist who created it using computer graphics. Most users took it for a real photo, since the source is the official NASA website, but it says that it is just a concept.
The Cassini probe reached Saturn for six years and 261 days, spending 20 years in space. The last real photo was taken by the apparatus on September 14, 2017 at a distance of about 634,000 kilometers from the surface of Saturn and it looks like this:
The photo shows the site of Cassini's entry into Saturn's atmosphere on the planet's night side. It may not be as epic as the photo recently circulated on the Internet, but it is real and shows the real "Grand Final" Cassini.
