In the quiet regional center of Chuchkovo, an unknown creature has been wielding for several years. Destroys rabbits, goats, geese, chickens, sheep. And put forward one hypothesis after another. The quieter one says that a lynx, a ferret, a marten are operating in the village … Well, or a cross between a dog and a wolf. Traces of the "goat vampire" (as "chupacabra" is translated from Spanish) were noticed in the suburbs. The Chuchkov creature has the same “handwriting”. He kills, but does not eat, and the owners find the carcasses of rabbits neatly folded the next morning … And this makes it especially creepy.
Other areas of the region are also supplied with horror stories. The Rybnovsky farmer lost all the pheasants overnight (an unknown animal lifted up the birds, but did not eat a single one!). There, 20 goats fell victim to some creature. In the Skopinsky district, the udders of cows are gnawed off … With each such message, the unknown animal in the imagination of the Chuchkovites becomes more and more. And now someone says that the creature looks like … a kangaroo.
Attacks became regular. And the correspondent went to Chuchkovo to find out what kind of monster intervened in the quiet life of the provincial village …
Strangled and laid on the floor
Four years ago, in the village of Pertovo, Chuchkovsky district, several strange attacks on domestic animals took place. In one yard, goats were slaughtered, in another, sheep were strangled, in a third, a foal's chest was torn apart. But in all cases, the culprit was given a special handwriting. A hungry beast would have eaten the victim or dragged it into its lair, but here the corpses of both animals and geese remained in the pens.

Two years ago, the killings - there is no other way to call it the mass extermination of livestock - stopped. And suddenly they resumed with renewed vigor in Chuchkovo.
In one courtyard, 18 ducks were killed at once during the night: all of them had their backs closer to the neck as if pierced with a nail, and one duck was headless. After that incident, the owner fenced off the aviary, nailed the net to the oak posts with the largest nails - from a hundred square meters and more. And a year later, everything repeated exactly like the first time: 22 ducks with punctured backs lie, one without a head. And the mesh, like thin gauze, is torn off.
Last winter, the owners of rabbits sensed trouble. One of the local residents found the cages opened and the rabbits bitten to death. Half of the animals were saved - the animal did not reach them. But in the spring he returned to finish what he had begun.
It seems that not a single courtyard remained, wherever the beast visited. People are sure that Evil itself has come to their homes.
One of the latest cases occurred on the night of June 10-11 in the courtyard of the Chubkin family. Behind a hedge of apple and cherry trees, the house is almost invisible from the street. The yard is very cozy, quiet, garden, flowers and a couple of beds. Just an idyll. From the outside, you can't say that only recently there was a massacre here. The shed stands right next to the house, across a narrow path. There are several rabbit cages attached outside, and a few more inside the barn. At the same time, the bedroom windows look directly at this place - a window leaf a couple of meters from the cells. The owners claim that they went to bed late, around two in the morning, but did not hear anything …
- In the morning I come in - all dead. Six large and 32 one and a half months, - says the hostess Alexandra Valentinovna. - I do not know what kind of creature, but I saw one trace on the ground in the garden - a very large one, with a diameter of an average apple. There are no more tracks, although the ground was wet, rain after rain. So, they walked along the asphalt path.
Neither the closeness of man, nor the obstacle stopped the bloodthirsty monster. If on the street it was not difficult to open the cages, just move the carnations, then in the barn they are already made of strong mesh. Not every person with pliers will tear this off - the rods are thick and it is nailed tightly. But the beast managed to break a hole in it. The edges of the torn rods are bent inward. The rattle was eerie, and the rabbits were rushing about in fear, trying to hide as far as possible.
“I just don’t understand how the animal got them out of that cage,” says Alexandra Valentinovna, pointing to the dwelling of rabbits in the very corner of the barn.
It is really impossible to imagine this. The cage is about 80x40 cm in size. On the front panel near one of the corners there is a small hole - a maximum diameter of 13 cm. A rabbit and a female rabbit lived here, both adults, but they probably squeezed into the opposite corner. What are the dimensions of the paws of the beast, if he got them out of there ?! By the way, the hostess found adult animals, unlike small ones, not in cages, but folded on the floor. Neat, like in a store on a shelf.
- No wound, no scratch. How he pulled them through this hole, it is not clear, they were large, - says Alexandra Chubkina. - The veterinarian came and looked - everyone was strangled. And everyone has a trace on their necks, like from a rope … The little ones may have been strangled with their jaws, I don't know, but the big ones, according to the doctor, had their heads twisted, strangled so that they broke the bones of the skull, the spine.
The woman tried to contact the police. But there is only one answer: “It is clearly an animal that did it, and we are dealing with people. So not to us. And to whom? The owner lost not only her pets, but also about 15 thousand rubles. By the way, the family raised rabbits for the sake of a grandson who is allergic to fatty meat.
“This meat would have been enough for him for six months, but I don’t know what to do now,” Alexander Chubkin throws up his hands.
The next attack took place in the regional center the very next night. In the family of Viktor Maksimov, all the cells are in a locked aviary. The owner made it for the bird, but then friends brought breeding rabbits from Kasimov, and Viktor Semyonovich caught fire with a new idea. An open-air cage with a roof on one side adjoins the shed, on the other, from the street side, it is fenced with a netting. Moreover, the bottom of the mesh on both sides is upholstered with boards (on screws), and at the ground it is sealed with concrete … or rather, it was sealed.
- The boards are completely broken. I don’t know who it was, but concrete … The creature is not only wildly strong, but smart as a person. After the boards were torn off, she simply dismissed the net from below and made a small hole in the shape of a triangle, - says Viktor Maksimov. - Through it I climbed into the aviary.
Here the killer was practically waiting for a gift. There were unattached boards on one of the cages; the owner's hands simply did not reach. Residents of this construction, 2.5-month-old rabbits, were apparently killed first. And then mysticism again …
- The bottom of the other cage was made of mesh, and a tesse was firmly nailed along the edges … A tesse was knocked down - that's such a strength. Then the creature tore out the net and climbed inside, - says Viktor Maksimov. - There was a rabbit with rabbits. The female is strangled and pulled out. The little rabbits disappeared. In the second cage, the same thing - the bottom is torn off, the rabbit lies dead outside, there are no rabbits. If the animal is so strong, then it is large, but the hole in the netting is small! Although … the beast can stretch out.
This case had two differences from the previous ones: for the first time, some of the animals disappeared and … at least some kind of clue appeared. A clump of smoky wool was stuck in the netting under which the killer was crawling. The evidence of how deliberately fell into the hands of Viktor Maksimov - he was the only one of all the victims who began his own investigation.
Operation Pitchfork, or Chasing the Monster
Half of the rabbits in the Maximovs' farm remained intact, and Victor realized that the killer would return. As in Pertovo. And he decided to track him down and kill him on his own. In order not to fall asleep, the owner took his 16-year-old grandson with him. But no one came to them. Meanwhile, the killings in other courtyards continued.
As in many Ryazan regional centers, in Chuchkovo there are two-story houses, the residents of which put sheds opposite the entrance - close to each other. There the killer was first seen.
- At night I hear - noise in the barn, I go there. And there the beast rages and crushes the rabbits. I try to open the door, push, but it … does not open - someone is holding it from the other side, - says Alexandra Peksheva. - I was just taken aback … cotton feet, heart pounding. And suddenly a jerk - as if someone jumped from the door and ran away.
The woman did not go inside the enclosure - she woke up the owner of the barn Elizaveta Trusova. They called another neighbor and went to the aviary together.
- I definitely saw two dogs. We opened the door, and they immediately jumped out. One of the fighting breed looked at me, I realized that he could tear a man apart. The paws are huge. And the second dog is small, - says Elizaveta Ivanovna.
Here the beast managed to strangle only a few rabbits. By the way, the mesh in the Trusovs' enclosure was also walled up in concrete and was also pulled apart. And exactly the same hole in the form of a small triangle. By that time, Viktor Maksimov was already sure that it was a lynx. This is a very powerful beast, while being small - 35 kg. It just fits into such a hole. But, after talking with Elizaveta Trusova, the hunter changed his mind.
“The guys and I carried out Operation Pitchfork - we checked all the non-residential buildings on all the streets, looked at the attics - all to no avail,” says Viktor Maksimov. - I also checked the version with the fighting dog. We have an abandoned military unit. I thought, maybe there whoever left a purebred dog had gone wild. I examined the whole part - nothing.
One of the residents of Chuchkovo, Alexander Pershikov, came to Maksimov and said that he knew a dog that could turn out to be a killer. Let's go to the place - Alexander has a bitch, the males are going.
- Shows me one dog. He is healthy in principle, but he is not drawn to the killer, - says Viktor Semenovich. - And with him are two small males, red and black. And all with tails, and Liza Trusova said that there was one dog without a tail.
But all these searches were staged during the day - at night an ambush. First, of course, football, then an ambush.
- We spent eight nights with a friend in the aviary. Nobody came. On the ninth day I could not stand it. I say to my wife, turn on the light, it won't come to light. At three in the morning I suddenly wake up. I hear - behind the barn in the aviary … an impossible knock and a squeal, - says Viktor Semyonovich. - I'm behind a gun and flying there. And the door to the aviary pulled - closed. He climbed into the same hole that he made the last time. I didn't cover it up on purpose. The thunder of the door frightened them away. I see the same dog … Do you know how he transforms at night ?! Beast. Wild scary beast. Wolfish. While the door was unlocking in the dark, I feel that he is leaving. I planted a shot, and he was already thirty meters away. I rrraz! As he screamed … he rolled over and ran. This is my second time BOOM! He's even stronger. And such a screeching roar is wild. And left.
The killer hid in a potato field. There are bushes almost waist-deep - find him. And then do not shoot indiscriminately - outside the field at home. Only now, when the dog was leaving, something flashed past, like red lightning. After that, Maksimov's sleep vanished. He began total surveillance - fortunately, now he knew who to look for. I found out that the gang starts their hunt at three in the morning. Until three, Viktor Semyonovich sleeps, then gets up, gets into the car and drives along Chuchkovo. And so every day.
“I'm tracking them down on Molodezhnaya Street. All in the collection - black, red and this dog. They run, I follow them. And they know all the moves, they cross all the streets along the paths. I go around, get up, right in the center of one house, - says Viktor Semenovich. It goes. I aim at point blank range with buckshot, I think, now I will go through this brute. WOMAN … - no shot! Only the smoke from the barrel. I catch up with him in the center, take aim. BOOM! He yelled and left.
Serial Killer Bug
We set off for another night outing together with Maximov. We get up at three in the morning, sit down in the "quarter" three of us - the owner, his grandson Vitalik and me. We drive in complete silence. The birds are still asleep, and the mosquitoes seem to have a break. Chuchkovo belongs to dogs at this time of day - they are the only ones we meet on the way. And there are many of them. And these are not only stray dogs, but here many people let their dogs go for a walk at night.
We've been spinning for half an hour, and suddenly Maksimov pulled up like a string. There is a dog on the road. You will see this on the street, you will regret the poor, skinny one with a pitifully drawn tail. The only merit is high. Frankly, after that picture with the torn cage, I expected to see a monster, the Baskervilles dog, at least. And here … And yet the killer betrayed himself. All the dogs went about their business, not paying the slightest attention to us. They have their own lives, we have ours. And this one … started up and dived between the houses. I sensed Maksimov. His grandfather and grandson studied his moves very well. A couple of minutes later we drive up to residential buildings in which people are sleeping peacefully. We look - it goes. And we are quite far away, I did not immediately notice. I went out onto the road and moved towards the bridge.
- All! - shouts Maximov. - The main thing is to be in time - where will he go from the bridge?
We drive up, 15 meters are left, but then he can go. Shot. Wounded. The dog, falling to the ground, leaves. You can't catch up further. What's the point?
Sleep in no eye. It's a shame. Such luck, and nothing is done to this beast.
- If he appears, I will shoot him in the ass again. But not to death - let him die like that, - said Viktor Semenovich afterwards. - And this redhead, as you left, I tracked down. He gave it two times - somersault. Whether she's alive or not, I don't know. But the attacks stopped. Now there is silence.

The version that this is a dog seems to be the most probable now. After studying all the known cases, the thread reached Pertovo. There people figured out the beast - it is a dog of one of the inhabitants of the village. And when they began to demand moral damage from her for the destroyed cattle, she moved to the regional center. And the dog drove away. Over time, he moved to the regional center.
- Here he put together a criminal group and lives with a Tatar. I come to him and say: “If you don’t give me this dog, I will sew you along with him. Got it? The answer is - I don’t know whose dog is just coming to me,”says Viktor Semenovich. - And in the afternoon, when the dog is just walking, you can’t say anything about him. Chikatilo walked like that too.
The killed animals began to disappear, apparently, after the male got friends - small mongrels. They just had to eat. Him - to kill.
- They say dogs can't do that. Might is a terrible beast. He is large, he tears the net, rips out the boards, and the small things go in there and do what they want. By the way, no one opened the rabbits, but I did. The little ones are simply strangled, and both pregnant females have their genitals eaten away, - says Viktor Semenovich. - He knew that there were rabbits, so he came a second time. If he is alive, he will come on the third.
