The first official message about the phenomenon of strange wells with melted walls, discovered in various places of the then huge country, from the Baltic to the Far East, was made, apparently, at the All-Union seminar on anomalous phenomena in Petrozavodsk in 1989. 12 years have passed since then, but this mystery has not yet been solved.
The authors of this message came to Petrozavodsk literally from the place of research. In the summer of 1989, experts in the field of information technology near the village of Gladkovskaya, on the Taman Peninsula, on the top of one of the hills, discovered a flat area. Five unusual wells are located on it in an even circle with a diameter of about 12 meters. The diameter of each was 2 meters, the depth was 3 meters or more.
Their shape of the “inverted bucket” type was completely unusual - the diameter of the wells increased with depth, and the walls formed by solid melted soil. Around - not the slightest traces of excavated earth (this is more than ten cubic meters from each), and the green grass approached directly to the edge of the wells. Judging by the polls of local residents, these strange formations appeared 1.5-2 years ago.
A sample from the melted wall was submitted for examination to the Paton Electric Welding Institute. The material turned out to be expanded clay, melted at a temperature of 1200-1300 °. However, no traces of human activity were found around, and the locals did not notice anything or anyone unusual on the hill.
However, subsequent analyzes brought only new mysteries: in soil samples taken near the wells, the content of titanium, strontium and other rare earth elements was much higher than the norm. The examination agreed that a short-term exposure to powerful radiation took place here, in which part of the rock simply evaporated and the walls melted. The question: who and why influenced, naturally, remained open.
In the summer of the same year, a similar story happened in the Southern Urals. An engineer from Perm, Vitaly Ashmarin, combined business with pleasure - he took groups of tourists along the foothills of the Urals. In July, his group was half women, and he took her on a traditional, long-explored route that did not hold any surprises. On one of his overnight stays, he took tourists to their usual place - the flat top of one of the hills with the strange name "Tatar Kurgan", although there were no Tatars in the area. The top of the hill was overgrown with dense bushes, and the open meadow was well blown by the winds.
And so, in the center of the clearing, where tired tourists were planning to put up their tents, something strange was discovered that had no place last year: four deep, almost perfectly round wells with a diameter of about one and a half meters, arranged in an even square. The distance between the wells along the perimeter of the square was about 10 meters. At dusk, no one began to examine the wells, but it was established that their walls were either concreted or melted.
And another oddity was striking: the wells ran obliquely, so that the extensions of their axes intersected in the air above the center of the square they formed. The impression was that someone had dug them or otherwise erected them to install a giant power line tower. But no lines were visible or laid around. And only then Vitaly realized that there were no traces of excavated soil, and only a narrow path led to the top of the hill.

For some reason, it was especially unpleasant to see melted beads near these strange wells, as if the tips of the trunks of some giant artillery pieces were sticking out of the ground. No one dared to settle down inside this ominous square, and they had to choose a parking place on a relatively flat area of the slope. At night, one of the girls came out of the tent and claimed that a dim light column went directly to the zenith above the top of the hill. But she did not wake anyone.
In the morning, Vitaly and one of the tourists climbed the hill, and Vitaly, climbing onto the tourist's shoulders, took a picture just above the clearing with the vents of wells. They approached the vents themselves with great caution and for some reason did not dare to look inside, they only threw several stones into each of them.
Judging by the sound that came immediately, the wells were deaf and empty, no more than a few tens of meters deep. Just in case, they dug a bump near one of them with a sapper shovel and came across an amazing thing - a glass bottle, the neck of which was firmly melted into the wall of the well - this bottle with a note was left here by tourists during last year's ascent. It immediately became clear that the soil in this place was subjected to local heating at a temperature of thousands of degrees.
Vitaly did not have any instruments, let alone a dosimeter, and he decided to sacrifice one of the films by putting a cassette with a clean film on the cut of the “vent”. Then, when he developed it, he was convinced that he had spoiled the film in vain - there was no radioactive illumination.
Meanwhile, the rest of the tourists joined them. Two tourists knew little about biolocation, and the bent knitting needles in their hands began to rotate madly as they approached the edge of the wells. The other two girls suddenly had headaches and all quickly left this strange place.
Unfortunately, Vitaly reported on what he saw only at the Tomsk Conference on Rapid Phenomena in the Environment in 1990. In 1991, the Tomsk "anomalies" gathered in the summer to examine these wells, but anomalous events took place in the life of our country with all the ensuing consequences.
However, in 1989, information about mysterious holes in the ground with melted walls began to come from various regions, including the Moscow region. In almost all cases, it was a question of several (3-5) symmetrically located holes, mainly on hills. This, apparently, was due to the fact that in the lowlands such a well will quickly fill up with subsoil waters and hardly anyone will pay attention to it.
A report even came from Mexico, where three symmetrical melted holes were found on the flat top of one of the ancient pyramids. It should be recalled that the pyramids were built from stone blocks and in order to melt a large hole in the stone, a huge power-to-weight ratio is required.
In those years, environmentalists and our home-grown "greens" began to unanimously accuse the military that they were testing aircraft or space laser weapons. The military, of course, denied this. According to another version, these wells are the result of testing penetrators - special devices dropped from aircraft and capable of deepening without destruction in the soil, transmitting information along the way. Such penetrators NPO them. Lavochkin was officially developed for future Mars robotic probes. Finally, according to the third version, these wells appeared during the tests of General Tsiferov's underground missiles, which just leave the mines with melted walls. However, all these versions turned out to be untenable.
But in the fall of 1989, the culprit seemed to have been caught at the scene of the crime: in the Kuibyshev region, a group of residents from two villages saw a flying ball with a "flashing light", which fumbled across the ground with a bright beam of a searchlight. At the place where the ball landed, a well of half a meter in diameter and several meters deep was found. The famous journalist of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" N. Varsegov immediately went to the scene. But what is the connection of this well with other cases of the occurrence of multiple wells with melted walls, it was not possible to find out.
