Experts from the American Space Agency are shocked by the huge bottomless hole in the light, which continues to grow.

The US National Aerospace Agency has published unique footage of a giant coronal hole in the Sun.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) has captured a bottomless black hole measuring more than ten percent of the luminary's surface area.

The imaging of the giant dark region, which usually appears in the place where the lines of the magnetic field of the star, when the solar plasma ceases to be held in this region, was conducted from May 17 to 19, 2016.

Experts from the American Space Agency were surprised by the size of the coronal hole - the largest ever observed.

The appearance of holes is recorded using images taken by satellites in the X-ray range, and the coronal holes themselves are much larger in size than ordinary dark spots.

To make the hole in the new image easier to spot, NASA has rendered it purple.

Coronal holes are regions of low density in the Sun's atmosphere. They contain a reduced amount of solar matter and have a relatively low temperature, in connection with which they look like dark spots against the background of their surroundings, notes NASA.

The holes are believed to arise from the high-speed and very powerful flow of the solar wind and are the main factor affecting the Earth's magnetic field and ionosphere.

However, scientists have not yet come to a consensus as to what causes the appearance of coronal holes.

Now our star is in a stage of activity, which is close to maximum. Therefore, holes disappear in certain places and appear at the poles, where the temperature is significantly reduced.

According to astronomers, the study of coronal holes is important for understanding the space environment around the Earth and the question of the origin of life on our planet.

Experts from NASA note that one of the factors that contributed to the origin of life on Earth could be solar activity - superflares, which led to the release of large amounts of energy and triggered certain chemical reactions.
