In India, doctors found one and a half kilograms of various objects in a patient's digestive tract, including nuts, bolts and jewelry. This is reported by the Daily Mail. A woman named Sangita presented to a hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, complaining of severe abdominal pain. Surgeon Nitin Parmar, who examined her, said that the Indian woman's stomach was "abnormally hard."

A 40-year-old patient was sent for an x-ray. The photograph showed that there are many foreign objects in the woman's digestive tract: metal zippers, hairpins, copper rings and even safety pins. The latter stuck out of Sangeeta's lung and stuck into the wall of the stomach. The surgeon decided to operate on the woman immediately. The doctors removed numerous objects for about three hours. After the operation, the hospital staff tried to track down the woman's relatives, but failed. Sangeeta remains under the supervision of specialists, her condition has stabilized.

Hospital staff believe that the woman suffers from a rare mental disorder - acuphagia, in which patients are irresistibly drawn to swallow sharp objects. This is a type of mental illness called picacism - the tendency to eat inedible things. The disorder is more common in young children and women (including pregnant women), people with developmental disabilities, and in poor regions.
