Similar cases have been encountered for several centuries. And still no one can explain why the graves sometimes "wander" from place to place …

In the XV century. in the city of Linz (Austria) in the archival records of the Church of St. Thomas a case was recorded when the grave of the burgher Stetenberg disappeared from the city cemetery. She was later discovered in another part of the cemetery, which caused a violent reaction from the superstitious inhabitants of the city.

The townspeople decided that the unfortunate Stetenberg was engaged in witchcraft, black magic during his lifetime, and now his ashes cannot find peace. The grave was opened in the presence of a huge tops, the remains were pulled out of the coffin and solemnly burned in front of a huge crowd, and the pit with the ashes was thrown with stones and a cross of aspen was placed on top - this is what they did with the dead, suspected of witchcraft in those days …

In 1627, the grave of Pedro Asuntos, who died many years ago, was mysteriously moved to the Spanish city of Cuenca. On this occasion, the Inquisition started an investigation, but the culprit was never identified … They only found out that the grave was moved along with the soil in which the rotted coffin was located.

In the 40s. XVIII century. near the German city of Ravensburg, on the banks of the river, two shepherds who were driving a flock stumbled upon a grave with a tombstone. Before that, they passed by many times, but there were no burials in this place at all. An inscription was carved on the stone: "Christina Bauer, a parishioner of the Church of Ravensburg, rests here."

The shepherds immediately turned to the priest of the local church. He, having appeared at the grave, was unspeakably surprised: it turned out that he knew Christina Bauer as one of the most zealous parishioners. She was buried in a prominent place in the church cemetery for her large monetary contribution to the church treasury.

The priest and the shepherds came to the cemetery, but there, on the site of Christina Bauer's grave, they found a completely empty and level piece of land! After a while, in front of many witnesses, excavations were carried out in both places, and, contrary to common sense, Bauer's ashes were found not in the cemetery, but in a coffin under a tombstone on the river bank!

The priest sprinkled the decayed coffin and remains with holy water and announced that for some reason God wanted it so, and ordered not to touch the remains anymore, let them lie where they were transferred.

Since then, superstitious locals have tried to bypass this grave, considering Christina a witch. During the First World War, a shell hit the tombstone and ruined the grave. Christine Bauer was clearly not destined to wait for peace in the next world!

In 1895, in the USA, the grave of gold-digger David Lowry, who died more than thirty years ago, inexplicably moved six hundred meters along with the tombstone.

A stunningly incomprehensible story happened in the fall of 1928. That year, Sir Arthur Hazelm found himself passing through the small Scottish town of Gleneesville. His grandfather's brother, Sir Roger Hazelm, was buried in the local cemetery almost seventy years ago.

In his youth, Roger started a quarrel with his father, fell out of favor, was disinherited and expelled from home. The young troublemaker wandered around the world for a very long time until he found peace in poverty and freedom at the local Glensville cemetery.

Over time, it became a tradition for the Hazlems to visit his grave, and the last time Arthur was here at least five years ago. However, in his memory he retained the location of Roger's grave, he also remembered the neighboring tombstone with an angel carved in granite.

Entering the cemetery, he immediately turned right and walked along the path that went around the cemetery. Roger's grave was supposed to be at the very end, by the fence. But she was not there!

The site where the grave once was was a flat, overgrown place. Arthur could swear that his memory did not fail him. Here is a tombstone with an angel, and here, two meters away, was Roger's grave, and he remembered it perfectly!

The watchman could not figure out anything at all about the disappeared grave, and the puzzled Sir Arthur turned to the municipality. The only way they could help him there was to find the old scheme of the location of the graves.

The diagram confirmed that Sir Arthur was not mistaken and was looking where needed. Someone remembered the former cemetery watchman Peter Fergusson. The old man was found, and he remembered that several times the grave of Sir Roger came across his eyes, and the last time it was four years ago.

But for what purpose? And in general, who needed to do such a senseless and blasphemous work?

Arthur telegraphed to London to his aunt, Lady Beryl, who, he knew for certain, had visited Glensville Cemetery several times after him. A few days later, the lady herself arrived and publicly announced that the tombstone had been moved.

Arthur was firmly convinced that only the tombstone was moved, and the coffin itself remained in the ground. To prove this, he hired excavators and ordered to dig at the site of the disappeared grave. A deep hole was dug, but no traces of a coffin were found in it!

Sir Arthur and Lady Beryl were completely at a loss. It remained to assume that Roger's grave in a Scottish cemetery was originally a fiction, that Roger was never buried here, and that his descendants and relatives laid flowers and eyelids to virtually empty space.

Intrigued, Sir Arthur decided to continue the experiment and ordered the diggers to excavate a new grave, although he was convinced that the pit would also be empty.

However, at a depth of one and a half meters, an excavator's shovel unexpectedly hit the lid of a rotten coffin and broke it! Very carefully, they freed the remains of the once oak coffin from the ground and found a skeleton with scraps of decayed clothes!

Lady Beryl, who was present at the excavation, demanded to examine the fingers of the hand. According to family tradition, Sir Roger, without taking off, wore a ring made of Indian silver with gold monograms R and H. Sir Arthur, confident that the discovered burial had nothing to do with his ancestor, personally went down into the pit.

On the ring finger dangled the very ring that Lady Beryl had so carefully described!

Doubt disappeared - they unearthed Roger Hazelm's grave. In addition, the graveyard diggers vowed that there could be no question of someone, not to mention themselves, digging a coffin from an old grave and transferring it to a new one.

The burial of Roger, as experts confirmed, was always here (!), The fragments of the coffin and the bones of the skeleton themselves were so firmly "soldered" into the ground that they practically did not separate from the soil.

Sir Arthur had to agree with this fact. The assumption that someone needed to move to a new place not only the tombstone cross, but also a very voluminous piece of soil, along with the coffin and the remains of Sir Roger, was completely ridiculous. In addition, such work could not be done without leaving virtually no traces.

All the newspapers in Great Britain wrote a lot about the story of the grave of Roger Hazelm at one time, the police were doing this, but not a single plausible version was put forward.

And here is a recent incident in the Foley Creek farming community, western Kansas, USA. It took place at the end of 1989. Early in the morning, leaving the house to check the livestock, farmer Joe Bernie found a grave mound with a rickety cracked stone tombstone right in the middle of the yard!

Screaming in fear, the sixty-year-old cattle breeder rushed into the house and called the police squad. The grave was examined. The inscription on the slab was all cracked, erased and could not be read.

A cruel joke was ruled out, since the next farm was five kilometers away, Bernie's farm was surrounded by a solid fence, and the gates were carefully locked with internal locks.

When the workers pulled out the slab and began to tear down the grave mound, at a depth of about half a meter, they stumbled upon a decayed coffin with the remains of a human skeleton, embedded in the ground.

Only with the help of an excavator were they able to carefully remove the coffin with the bones and transport them several kilometers to the steppe, where they were reburied in a deep pit.

Whose remains were, how they got to a farm located far from the city and its cemetery, scientists could not explain, although the photo report about this mysterious incident went around many American media.

However, as it already became clear, Joe Bernie was by no means the first person who was perplexed and almost went crazy when faced with such phenomena.

If we assume that the transfer of graves is the work of unknown pranksters or malefactors, then how did they manage to remain unnoticed? After all, such work requires a lot of time and effort! There is another explanation - magic. They say that the "flight" of graves is the work of magicians and sorcerers, or even unknown dark entities.

However, what drives the civilized people into a dead end is not at all a secret for some African tribes, Polynesian natives and other pagans. Back in the VI-V centuries. BC. members of the Jain religious sect considered the spontaneous movement of burials to be a terrible curse, which could only be saved by self-immolation …

The priests in the Pacific islands and Polynesia still have a custom, right after the funeral, to pour over the grave from all sides with the tree sap of the "magic" tree or to surround it with a border of shells or red clay. This is done, according to them, so that the grave "does not go away."

The priests of the Negro cult of voodoo do the same on the islands of Samoa and Haiti.

On the Tongo Islands there is a tribe in which only two people are always buried in one grave. If a grave with one deceased can "leave", then with two it cannot: if the soul of one of them wants to change its place, the soul of the other will certainly oppose.

Meanwhile, members of a medieval Islamic society called the Brothers of Purity used the earth from such graves in occult rites. They believed that such a land has mystical and healing properties.

The Spanish conquistador Pedro de Alvarado describes the curious case of the displacement of the graves of the Inca priests. He reports that the remains of the priests are buried on the ocean coast, and then they are "transported" from there to an elevated basalt plateau, located two and a half kilometers from this place. Alvarado saw with his own eyes six graves on the plateau, "displaced" in this way.
