In Rostov, on Stanislavsky Street, archaeologists continue excavations. Scientists work in the area between Sokolov Avenue and Chekhov Street. Already 22 burials have been found here.
In one of the graves, experts found a woman's skeleton with a whole set of different things. If earlier archaeologists had already come across household items, then in this grave, in addition to dishes, iron needles, scissors and even a mirror were first discovered.
- Items of female use were at the feet of the skeleton. The mirror was a well-polished metal, in which one could see one's own reflection, and not glass, as it is now, - said the head of the archaeological expedition, Alexander Nechiporuk. - There were beads on the hands or sleeves of the woman's clothes, they have not survived, but you can see their traces.
There were also small sticks of bronze, which, as scientists assume, ancient women could use to curl their hair.
Another skeleton caught the attention of scientists. The deceased was not lying on his back, but on his side, with his legs bent. Several such burials were found on the territory of the burial ground of the Rostov settlement.
“There are no objects in these graves, it is quite possible that these people had a low social status, for example, they were slaves, so they were buried in this form,” noted archaeologist Anton Dedyulkin.
Recall that in the center of Rostov, archaeologists unearthed the burials of the ancient population - Meots, dating back to the 1st-3rd centuries AD. The Meots moved to the Don from the Kuban. So far, 93 graves have been found.
