According to BMC Cell Biology, a group of British scientists from the University of Exeter has discovered a new way to rejuvenate human cells. Moreover, the substance that makes cells younger is resviratrol. Main ingredient in red wine, dark chocolate, grapes and blueberries.
During the experiment, experts led by Dr. Loreena Harris were able to use resviratrol to force cells to start actively dividing and lengthening telomeres (the ends of chromosomes). The fact is that telomere shortening is the main sign of aging of human cells. With each division, the telomere is shortened, and when the shortening reaches the “point of no return,” the cell stops performing its function.
The above discovery by scientists is based on earlier research by scientists, during which it was possible to find out that there are a number of proteins called splicing factors. They "turn off" with aging, which is why cells lose the ability to divide, which is also associated with shortening of telomeres. As we found out, these genes can be “turned on” back. And resviratrol is responsible for the inclusion.
“When we saw the changed cells, we were amazed. All the old cells became just like young ones. This is the first step in trying to help older people live normal, fulfilling lives. Our data show that the use of drugs and products with resviratrol can restore the function of old cells. They can share and fulfill their function again."
