Once visiting Athens, the famous philosopher Athenodorus noticed a huge house that was offered for rent at a ridiculous price. The scientist became interested in the proposal and decided to contact the local residents for information about the owner of such a large estate. He soon learned that everyone who wanted to settle in this house was frightened by the ghost of a terrible person resembling a skeleton. The ghost's arms and legs were chained in heavy chains that rattled so that the blood chilled in his veins. Everyone who wanted to live in this house ran away after the first meeting with the ghost.

An inquisitive philosopher decided to challenge a strange ghost and rented a house. On the very first night, a mysterious ghost appeared and, clattering with heavy chains, began to frighten the intruder, but he did not move. Then the ghost beckoned Athenodorus to follow him. The scientist followed him into the garden and marked the place where the ghost disappeared. The next day, having received permission from the local authorities, the man began to explore the ground under a huge stone slab. There he found human bones that were chained in heavy, rusty chains. The found remains were properly buried, after which the mysterious ghost ceased to frighten the residents of the house.

An equally interesting case took place in England. During the time of Elizabeth I, a young girl named Anna Griffith lived in a family estate called Burton Agness Hall. There she spent her childhood and adolescence, and there she died at a rather young age from an unknown illness. But before her death, Anna bequeathed to her sisters to cut off her head and keep her forever in this house. The sisters wrote off such a strange request of the dying woman to the consequences of a serious illness and did not fulfill their promise by burying the girl in the family crypt on the estate.

Some time after the funeral, the residents of the house heard loud hysterical laughter. The men drew their swords and rushed in search of the strange guest, but found no one. Loud groans and laughter were heard every night, the frightened sisters once broke down and turned to the vicar for advice. He, knowing about the last request of the deceased, advised to open the coffin. The sisters went down to the crypt and were horrified to find that Anna's head was separated from the skull and lay, resting on her jaws, as if asking from the coffin. The girls complied with the last request of their sister, they put their heads in a prominent place in the living room. After that, the strange screams stopped.

The house was calm until the dishwasher, who decided that this strange thing had outlived its usefulness, threw it onto a passing cabbage cart. The cart immediately stopped, and no matter how much the driver whipped the horse, no matter how much he checked the serviceability of the wheels, the cart refused to move. The owner of the house came out to the noise. Upon learning of what had happened, he demanded that the skull be immediately taken to the place. The maid flatly refused to touch the strange thing. This was done by the owner himself. The cart immediately moved from its place.

After some time, the descendants of Anna's family left the house, selling it to new tenants. They immediately decided to get rid of the skull and ordered the servant to bury it in the garden. As soon as the ground over the skull was rammed, a terrible inhuman cry rang out in the house. The residents spent a terrible night trying in vain to find the source of the terrible screams, and in the morning they found that the garden was blackened from frost, and all the horses began to limp. An old servant, who knew the history of the house, found the place where the skull was buried, dug it up, brushed off the dust and put it in its usual place. From that moment on, peace and quiet reigned in the estate. They say that since then no one dared to take Anna's skull out of the house.

The story of another ghost was told by the residents of Hampshire. The ghost of a young beautiful woman roamed the corridors of a posh mansion called Marvel Hall. For several decades, at her own wedding, the beautiful bride invited the guests to play hide and seek. At the end of the game, everyone was found except the bride. Since the house was very large, everyone joined in the search for the missing, but she was never found. Soon the ghost of the beautiful bride began to roam the corridors of the estate. This continued until one of the maids went up to the dusty attic and lifted the lid of an old chest. There was a skeleton, dressed in a wedding dress. Apparently, many years ago, the bride hid in this chest, and its lid slammed shut. After the burial, the ghost disappeared.
