In the UK, documents have been declassified, according to which the British government spent 50 years trying to catch a UFO.
Reports show that the British intelligence services were deeply afraid that China or the USSR already possessed the aliens' secret military technology and therefore needed an equally powerful weapon to counter them.
The program was closed only in 1997, when there was concern that the UFO hunt would distract the British intelligence services from other more important tasks.
Between 1947 and 1997, British intelligence services also held two large conferences on the UFO issue, one of which was in open mode, according to released documents. Any eyewitness could contact the participants and tell about what he saw.
The documents consist of three folders called UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena), with over a thousand pages. They were supposed to be made public in 2008-2013 under the Open Government program, but researcher Clark from the National Archives received edited copies of the documents only in early 2018.
According to Clarke, according to the documents, the government was desperate to shoot down at least one UFO and take over their technology. Then the British would have an innovative weapon that could intimidate opponents in the Cold War.
At the same time, one of the officers feared that perhaps China and the USSR had already taken possession of such technologies and created aircraft with incredible characteristics on their basis.

British agents were ordered to closely monitor any mention of unusual objects in the sky. Especially it was necessary to pay attention to the speed and maneuverability of these objects.
According to Dr. Clark, the British military was very reluctant to publish these documents and therefore delayed their opening for 10 years.
“Despite the fact that the copies that fell into my hands were carefully censored, they could not hide the fact that the British military was interested in capturing UFO technology and wanted to create a superweapon based on it. And they continued to work on it until 1997, still considering Russia a threat from the West."
