Scientists have already proven that a regular hamburger can be grown in the laboratory from just a few cow stem cells. Perhaps the day will come when all of our food, which we are used to seeing on the dinner table, will be grown without the intervention of nature and agriculture.

Designer Joanna Schmeer, in her new project, tried to show how food might look like in the near future. She has developed seven different products that are theoretically designed to provide a person with all the substances necessary for survival, namely water, vitamins, fiber, sucrose, fats, proteins and minerals.

Bioplastic cells filled with enzymes could mimic living cells and produce the required substance through artificial photosynthesis.

The designer was inspired to create his invention by a scientific study published this year, which proved that it is possible to obtain a "plastic" cell capable of carrying out a chemical reaction. The study authors believe that in the future they will be able to create a bioplastic cell that looks and functions like a real one.

“This is a purely conceptual project, and today it is technically impossible to turn this concept into reality,” explains Joanna Schmeer, “but since the project is based on the results of a recently made scientific discovery, its implementation could be realized in 40-50 years” …

“What we perceive as the taste of food is actually a combination of the senses - sight, smell, touch and taste. Therefore, instead of trying to imitate traditional dishes, we can create new, artificial counterparts, focusing on visual and tactile sensations,”the designer suggests.

By 2050, we will have to increase food production by 70% to feed the growing population of the Earth. So isn't it better to find alternative food sources than to think about how to grow more food?
