Information recently circulated by several Western scientific sites has sparked the Internet. Still, we were talking about a double dictyophore, or about a netkonoske (Dictyophora), - a mushroom, the smell of which supposedly causes … a spontaneous orgasm. And only in women.
Breathe through your nose
The appearance of the bearer of the miraculous aroma did not leave indifferent either - it is simply obvious that it was thanks to him that the mushroom received another name - immodest phallus (Phallus indusiatus). And given another name - Stinkhorn, one could assume that the mushroom really smells like something special.
At one time, the scientific journal International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms introduced the amazing reaction of women to the smell of the phallus of the immodest. In 2001, a small article was published in it about its amazing properties. Someone found it, posted it on the Internet, which attracted public attention.
Local mycologists John Holiday and Noah Soul experimented with the miracle mushroom that grew in the Hawaiian Islands. The test subjects included 16 women and 20 men. The mushroom had no effect on men - in an erotic sense. A woman is another matter. If Holiday and Soul are to be believed, the first four who smelled the mushroom they had just picked had an immediate orgasm. At the same time, their skin turned red, their pulse became more frequent, and their blood pressure jumped. The experimenters were even scared lest the subjects had a stroke or heart attack. The next women were no longer sniffing a fresh mushroom, but a thawed one. But even that led to two more orgasms. The rest had a slight sexual arousal and increased heart rate.
The male volunteers said that they almost vomited from the intolerable stench of this very phallus. To women, it did not seem disgusting, and half of the subjects found the smell of the mushroom even pleasant.

The news of the miracle mushroom reached Christy Wilcox, a graduate student at the University of Hawaii and also a science journalist. Scientific and journalistic interest and called her on a journey in search of the immodest phallus.
First, Christie tried to find those longtime experimenters. Found only Holiday - Soul is already dead. The scientist refused to speak for a long time, referring to the fact that he had already gotten these mushrooms. But he had mercy. He said that he had learned about the mushrooms by chance in the hospital, where he had come to take an X-ray. I talked to the nurse. She told him that she went with her mother to sniff mushrooms, considered this occupation extremely pleasant, but worried if they had gone crazy.
Holiday vowed that he personally witnessed the six orgasms, which he later mentioned in a scientific journal. He did not give any other details, explaining that he is now participating in a commercial project that is associated with those very mushrooms.
Christy found out: immodest phallus grow on the Big Island of the Hawaiian archipelago in a nature reserve in places once filled with lava. An inquisitive journalist went to look for them with her boyfriend Jake. By the way, it was he who was the first to smell the "aroma" of the mushroom, which was mixed with the natural smells of the forest. Simply put, from somewhere it smelled like a platoon of soldiers had spoiled the air! But it turned out - one and only immodest phallus, which Christie almost stepped on.
In the immediate vicinity of the mushroom, it smelled differently. The stench, according to Christie, has taken on notes of decomposed fish.

I smelled in vain
In Hawaiian epics, Christie found a story about a girl named Makealani, the daughter of King Kupakani, who dreamed of a good husband and children. And so, when she turned 16, she went for a walk in the forest. And suddenly she smelled a strange smell, from which my head was slightly clouded and visions of a sexual nature arose. She dreamed of Kepaa in an obscene form - the son of Noah, who was a friend of the girl's father. Makealani faded, but did not run away, but, on the contrary, followed the smell.
Further in the epic, a mushroom is described that exuded an alluring aroma. Precisely the phallus is immodest. The matter ended with Makealani sniffing him, shaking in waves of bliss and, recovering, rushed faster than the wind to Kepaa, whose image did not leave her. Unable to deal with the newly surging desires, the girl entered into a passionate intimate relationship with the young man. As a result, they got married, lived happily ever after.
By the way, Christie went mushrooming with her boyfriend also in order not to run far, if she could repeat Makealani's experience at least partially. But it didn't work out. Christie did not experience orgasm. Not immediately, not later. Which he regrets very much. I smelled in vain.

Mushrooms like dictyophora grow not only in the Hawaiian Islands, but also in the middle lane. The shape is also characteristic, which is why they are called upstart, shameful, smelly morel. They grow from May to October in deciduous forests, preferring humus-rich soils. They reach a height of 20 centimeters.
Some sources indicate that these mushrooms allegedly increase potency, increase sexual arousal in the fairer sex. There is no mention of orgasm, but another name for the mushroom - veselka - is suggestive.
The mushroom is not poisonous. It is safe to sniff it. In some countries, dictyophora is even eaten and praised.

The mycologists, whom Christie turned to for an explanation, were divided.
Some believe that mushrooms have no orgasmic effects. Others believe that they are not excluded. They say that some mushrooms contain so-called phytosteroids, the action of which is similar to male sex hormones. But not everyone is able to react to them. Because they are akin to pheromones. And the stimulating effect is exerted through the vomeronasal organ (VNO) - a kind of tiny fossa located in the nose and connected by nerves directly to the brain.
According to statistics, in about half of women, VNO functions normally, and in the rest it is atrophied. Maybe this is the secret of the result obtained by Holiday and Soul. Orgasm was obtained only by those women for whom the UPE was working at full capacity - 6 out of 16. That roughly corresponds to statistical data.
It turns out that the matter, perhaps, is not in the specific smell of the mushroom, but in its pheromones - odorless volatile substances that affect primarily the prefrontal cortex and the anterior hypothalamus. After all, as shown by studies on a tomograph, it is these areas of the brain that become most active during orgasm.
Christie made a conclusion for herself: this very VNO junk. Or maybe it's even worse: Holiday and Soul just lied.
