The lizard fish gets its name from the fact that its face is very similar to a lizard. This unusual fish is known as the deepest oceanic predator on the planet.

She lives in pitch darkness, and her terrifying mouth is full of teeth, sharp as needles.

Scientists aboard a research vessel discovered a lizard fish by accident. She was caught by scientists off the coast of eastern Australia on June 4 this year, according to a blog post by one of the researchers.

The scientific name for this terrifying creature is Bathysaurus ferox, which means "cruel deep-sea lizard". This ocean monster usually lives at depths of 1,000 to 2,500 meters. Fish - a lizard loves the ocean floor, where it hides in the silt and waits for its rare prey, which accidentally wander to such a great depth.

The lizard fish is hermaphrodite and also has an unusually large liver that makes up 20 percent of its body weight. The length of a large individual reaches half a meter.

It is unclear why the liver of this fish is so large. According to one of the scientists' assumptions, this size of the liver provides the ocean predator with enough energy to survive in extreme conditions.

Another interesting feature of this predator is that it has fluorescent powers and can glow.
