A 29-year-old resident of El Paso, Texas, reported that he illegally crossed the border between China and the DPRK in November 2014, crossing the river. Martinez justified his act with a desire to tell the truth about the United States.

The American criticized the political system of the United States, the actions of the police, as well as the electoral and penitentiary systems. According to Martinez, suffrage in the United States is built in favor of the rich, and American democracy is an illusion.
In addition, the American spoke about unidentified flying objects, "ultrasonic devices" with which people, according to him, can hear voices, and also accused the CIA of selling cocaine, and the Western media of creating a false image of the DPRK.
At the same time, he thanked the DPRK authorities for the "humane attitude" and the decision not to punish him for violating North Korean laws, and also said that he hopes to get political asylum in Venezuela in the future, reports TASS.
In September, Martinez was detained by South Korean border guards during the first attempt to cross the border with the DPRK. During interrogation, he stated that he was trying to get to North Korea to meet with Kim Jong Un.
