Yesterday, in the capital of the Republic of Korea, Seoul, a scientific conference of world seismologists was held, which was brought together by the Korean Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources.
The conference was attended by such world luminaries as Jiaki Liu, Clive Oppenheimer, Richard Stone, famous for their research on the North Korean volcano Paektusan. And this is not accidental: scientists of the world are concerned about the current state of this volcano.
Its huge crater is the result of an apocalyptic eruption that occurred here in the distant 946, which is called the catastrophe of the millennium. According to the myth cultivated in North Korea, the founding father of the state and the progenitor of the Korean people, with whom the great Kim Jong-un is in direct kinship, descended the mountain at that moment. Therefore, the Pektusan volcano for North Koreans is the holy mountain of the revolution, about which a huge inscription of 216 meters is even carved on it.
At the turn of the millennium, the extinct crater of the volcano revived again, showing activity, which made the authorities of China, the Republic of Korea and even Japan worry. For this reason, the "Iron Curtain" was even raised over the DPRK, and volcanologists led by Richard Stone were sent there to study the situation with the Paektusan crater.
The volcano was surrounded by numerous sensors and other ultra-modern devices, as a result of which it was found that the thickness of the earth's crust under the volcano is just over 35 kilometers (this is very small), and therefore an earthquake magnitude of 5-7 on the Richter scale may well lead to the eruption of this fire-breathing monster.
There was no exaggeration about the "fire-breathing monster". The fact is that in 946, as scientists established, the Pektusan volcano threw out at least 25 cubic kilometers of rocks and 45 million tons of sulfuric gases, which was also accompanied by flows of 2 billion tons of boiling water. If this happens again, this eastern region of the Earth will not seem a little.
At the same time, the nuclear test site, on which the DPRK military tested a hydrogen bomb on September 3, is located only 115 kilometers from the volcano's crater, and the magnitude of the bomb explosion was 6.3 on the Richter scale. And then scientists began to observe the consequences of such a rash step by the leadership of North Korea. Here is what Richard Stone said about this at a conference of seismologists:

After this hydrogen test, the number of microearthquakes in the vicinity of Mount Paektu increased sharply. Seismic activity around the volcano has clearly increased, this should be understood as the beginning of the movement of magma to the surface of the earth, which threatens to explode the volcano at any moment. If at the same time Pyongyang experiences another bomb, a catastrophe simply cannot be avoided, although even now the hope for a positive outcome that the volcano will calm down and fall asleep again for centuries is small, since the strength limit of the magma chamber of 5-7 points, which we determined earlier, has been violated … And therefore, it is now simply impossible to predict when Paektusan will begin its deadly eruption. It can happen anytime, even tomorrow …
