In the process of economic development of the 16th century, a very important factor was the shifting of the center of gravity of world economic relations and the transfer of the center of economic energy from the circle of southern European nations (Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese), to which some of the southern German regions were also adjoined, to the northwestern European peoples: first to the Belgians and the Dutch, then to the French, British, North Germans. A significant phenomenon was the rapid flowering of Holland, which gave impetus to the intensive development of the productive forces, especially in France and England. Throughout the 17th century, the goal of all theorists and practitioners of the northwestern nations of Europe was only to compete with Holland in the fields of trade, industry, shipping and colonial conquest.
The 16th century in England is the darkest time. Especially the reign of Henry VIII (1509-1547), who led the Reformation and severed Albion from the Catholic Church. At this time, the pre-capitalist development of England begins. It becomes very profitable not to sow bread, but to raise sheep and supply wool to neighboring Holland, where many textile factories operate. But where to get land for pasture on a small island? And the lords are accepted by the masses to drive free peasants from the land, seizing communal and monastery lands. The peasants are deprived of their property, turning into a crowd of people without property or any means of subsistence. Their discontent is brutally suppressed by mercenary troops. Something is happening that is strikingly reminiscent of the Soviet dispossession and collectivization of 1929.
The masses of propertyless free peasants turn into beggars and vagabonds - paupers. They have to steal in order not to die of hunger. According to completely official figures, under Henry VIII, 72 thousand people were hanged from the country's three million population - two and a half percent of all Englishmen. Seventy-two thousand Englishmen died in the throes of suffocation. These were the most real mass repressions, pure genocide. If we transfer the destruction of one fortieth part of the population to the 190 million Soviet Union of Stalin's times, then we get four and a half million souls. For the sake of fairness, we note that under Stalin, much fewer people were executed. Stalin took people mainly to great construction sites, from where there was a chance to return. The English loop killed one hundred percent. By the way, under Henry's granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth, when laws against vagabonds were applied to the fullest, 90 thousand people were executed in the country. How many people died from malnutrition and poverty - no one counted. What is this if not massive repression?
This is how the foundations of capitalism were laid in England. The driving of the peasants from the land and their executions had their own cruel logic. Developing capitalism demanded a mass of cheap workers, armies of obedient proletarians, willing to work 12 hours a day for a pittance - no, not yet in factories, but so far only in manufactories, machineless enterprises based on muscle strength. It was necessary from somewhere to recruit sailors for sailing ships, where labor was also hard labor. The peasants who owned their land would not go there for any price. First, it was necessary to carry out "collectivization and dispossession", exterminating obstinate people ready to resist. Which is exactly what happened. Western capitalism was built on human bones.
