Recently in the Ulyanovsk region, strange road accidents began to occur more and more often. Local historians blame the old cemeteries on which most of the local highways are built. One of the strange cases happened recently with the Umarov brothers, who were on their way to their home in the working village of Pavlovka
In the area of the village Oktyabrskoye, Nikolaevsky district, their brand new "nine" with a full tank of gasoline suddenly stopped. The guys could not understand what was the matter and decided to stop the ride. It was foggy that day in the morning, and we had to get out almost to the middle of the road. Fifteen minutes later, unexpectedly, a black Volga flew out of the haze at high speed. When the driver noticed the people, it was already late, he hit the brakes with all his might, but still knocked both brothers down. One of them remained lying on the road, and the other flew to the side of the impact. Jumping out of the car, the man immediately ran to the victims. And at that moment, another passenger car appeared on the track, which also moved at high speed. The second driver, it seems, did not notice the victims and drove at speed over the man lying on the road. He didn't even stop to see if he was alive. By the time the ambulance arrived, one of the brothers was already dead, and the other was urgently taken to the intensive care unit of the regional hospital.
According to local residents, on the Nikolaev highway, it is in this place that most accidents occur. Moreover, all road accidents are serious - with a fatal outcome. The villagers "sin" in the old pagan cemetery, which was once located next to the road. Until now, local children, despite the strict prohibitions of their parents, bring home the preserved skulls and bones, which are sometimes found almost on the side of the road. As the correspondents of the "Ulyanovsk Meridian" found out, this is not the only anomalous place on the road map of the Ulyanovsk region associated with ancient cemeteries.
Finno-Ugric curse
Local historians excitedly talk about the fact that all these mysterious accidents are not accidental - in the place where the main roads of the region now pass, there used to be ancient cemeteries. In these places, as a rule, there is a powerful negative energy. The death of people, which has already become a regularity, makes scientists pay attention to such "bad" places.
Not so long ago priests from Mordovia visited our region. A special expedition was organized to anomalous places in the Volga region. Among them was the Saransk-Ulyanovsk highway. The priests served prayers at anomalous places.
- All these oddities appear because of our own blasphemy in relation to death, - says one of the organizers of the expedition, director of the regional museum of local lore Nikolai Malyasov. - For example, the increased number of road accidents on the section of the ninety-second kilometer of the Saransk-Ulyanovsk road, laid in the early 1980s through the top of the mound, in my opinion, is noted due to the fact that there was a pagan Finno-Ugric burial there. Only the Orthodox Church is capable of making these zones safe for people: it is necessary to perform a panikhida or consecration in these places.
By the way, Ulyanovsk residents were among the initiators of such undertakings. Last year, Valery Seleznev, deputy chief of the Cherdaklinsky traffic police, asked the then priest of the local church, Father Nikolai, to consecrate the highway near the village of Mirny, where there were also a lot of accidents. Father was slowly driven in a UAZ, and meter by meter he sprinkled holy water on the roadbed. Every hundred meters the car stopped and Father Nikolai read a prayer. After that, the accident on the "bad" track has significantly decreased.

Another place in the Ulyanovsk region, where serious accidents occur with frightening regularity, is the federal highway a few kilometers from the regional center Barysh. Traffic police officers leaving for incidents are already joking gloomily that it is time for them to record … the appearance of a ghost. The fact is that before every accident, almost all drivers see a beautiful young girl in a white dress, who then disappears without a trace. However, local residents have their own explanation for this phenomenon.
- This is a girl who died at this very turn in the early sixties, - says Konstantin Efimov. - I was very little then, but I remember her a little. Her name was Anya. She was very beautiful and cheerful, the guys ran after her in a round dance. Finally she got ready to get married, and just before the wedding her car was hit. And three weeks later, her groom decided to erect a monument at the site of the tragedy. It was at this monument that she began to appear. The fiance saw her first. I ran to the village, white as paper. I, he says, just saw Anya, standing in a wedding dress and smiling at me. So the guy disappeared, got drunk then, it seems. This monument was demolished, but Anya did not cease to appear. Until now, cars are beating because of her - as if she wants to avenge her death.
Another incredible story is associated with the Staraya Besovka of the Melekess district. Local residents still talk about how in 1755, during the construction of a local temple, a young villager Snalte was sacrificed. Before the girl was buried alive underground, she cursed the village for a hundred years of misfortune. The village, according to this, should have been chased by fires, children would cease to be born in it, cattle would die out, the inhabitants of Besovka would suffer from crop failure and hunger. The innocent girl also cursed the road along which she was taken before burial - she predicted that not a single blood would be shed on her, adults and children would die here.
- The girl's prophecies gradually began to come true, says local resident Tatyana Fedorovna. - Wheat has ceased to be born, and people are dying on a rural road. A hundred years have passed since that time, but the curse has not lost its power. All drivers who have been involved in accidents say they themselves do not understand why an accident occurs. Some simply did not see people falling under the wheels, others suddenly jammed the steering wheel, the brakes failed. Most of the tragedies take place on the road next to the local cemetery. “There is a legend that about a hundred years ago, men drowned a horse thief in a local pond,” says the rural ethnographer Stanislav Gavrilovich Surkov. - Before the death of the gypsies, he sent a curse on everyone who would ever live on this land or drive through it. Locals claim that it is because of this curse that something is constantly happening in Mullovka. Either the fish in the pond dies, then people are knocked down by KamAZ trucks.
Accidents do happen often here. Quite recently, two pensioners were shot down near Mullovka. According to local residents, the driver fell out of the cab in a state of shock, and when he stepped back a little, he began to assure that he was trying with all his might to turn the steering wheel, but it seemed to jam. According to rumors, the experts did not find any problems. Some continue to believe that there are no anomalies in all these incidents. And the reason is that the village is a transit point for truckers who stop at a local cafe. At the same time, strange things continue - and not only in Mullovka …
