Ilion is the Greek name for Troy, an ancient walled city in Asia Minor on the Troada Peninsula. Around 1260 BC e. Troy was destroyed and died in the fire. After 400 years, about 700 BC. e. the Greeks founded a city on the site of Troy, which received the name New Ilion. Until now, disputes do not subside: did the adventurer Heinrich Schliemann really discover that very Troy? Kazakh researcher Zhumabek Sadykov, author of the book How to find Alexander the Great in the tomb of Tutankhamun, claims that Heinrich Schliemann did not find Troy, but the city described by Homer is located near the modern Turkish city of Antalya. Historical, geographical and toponymic data served as the basis for this statement.
Evidence: The people that inhabited Troy are called Teukras in ancient Greek sources. According to Hellenic legends, the city stood in a fertile, hilly country, between the spurs of the Ida mountains, on the shores of the lagoon of the Dardanelles. On both sides Troy was irrigated by two rivers: Simois and Scamander; both of them flowed along a wide valley and emptied into the nearest bay of the sea. 1. The name comes from the mythical hero Dardanus, the founder of the city of Dardania in Troas. Power in Troas was divided between the two cities. Homer made a clear distinction between these two peoples. Duden Waterfalls - a cascade of waterfalls within the city of Antalya, formed by the Duden River. Upper Duden Waterfall, also known as Alexander the Great Waterfall. It got its name from the fact that Alexander visited here. 3. About the river Scamander Homer says that it flows from two sources - warm and cold. This is the indication in Canto 22 of the Iliad. Goksu is a river in Turkey, near Antalya, formed by the confluence of two branches that come out of the Central Taurus mountain range and connect to the south of Mut. The southern arm starts from the Djeik mountains, and the other arm - from the Haydar mountains. A river with a winter flood - fits the description of Homer, about two sources of the river - cold and warm.
The Goksu River forms lagoons in the Akgoll and Paradeniz area on the coast between Silifke and Tasuku, and the territory of Troy was bounded by a bay created by the mouth of the Scamander River. In 1190, during the Third Crusade, the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa drowned in this river, then called Kalikadn, which is closer in sound to the Scamander.
Mount Haydar not far from Antalya, from which one branch of this river originates, is it an echo of the old name of Ida next to which Troy stood? Names over time and with translations into different languages are greatly distorted.
